The June 2006 Lima, OH. Half-Mile Grand National Championship Series event shows an early practice session as the fans are just starting to line the outside edge of the track between turns 1 and 2. By the time the heat races start, Lima usually sees the crowd 3-4 deep in the turns due to the fantastic turn-out of fans, and the track's loyal hosting of AMA Pro Flat Track Series events for close to three decades now.
(L-R) Bryan Bigelow #11, Logan Myers #14X, Rob Pearson #27, (Unkown), Tim Eades #72, John Wood #88, Dominc Beaulac #30, Jay Springsteen #9, Gary Rodgers #53 (?), Mike Hacker #67, and #53F (Unknown) display a wide variety of racing lines just as Jared Mees #21 scoots out of sight. Lima produces some of the best racing on the AMA Pro Flat Track Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship Series circuit due to it's limestone and pea gravel surface, which in turn gives the riders a big playground on which to race.
North Central Speedway in Brainerd, MN. has stepped up in a VERY big way to take over the September 24, 2011 slot vacated by the cancelation of the Canterbury Park Mile (due to the recent Minnesota State Government shut-down), and will host the track's very first AMA Pro Flat Track event on the last Saturday in September. North Central is a 1/3 mile track, which normally hosts the WISSOTA stock car series.
Let's all take the time to give a BIG thanks to the great folks at North Central Speedway for stepping in to host this round of the 2011 AMA Pro Flat Track Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship Series. This is super news for fans, friends, riders and sponsors alike in The Rolling Thunder Show, and we really appreciate them stepping up to the plate to take on an event of this magnitude in such short notice.
Thank you NCS!

Brainerd's North Central Speedway Steps Up to Join 2011 AMA Pro Flat Track Calendar
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (July 21, 2011) - While a state-government shutdown and the bankruptcy of a non-profit organization have had far-reaching implications, forcing the cancellation of two rounds of the 2011 AMA Pro Harley-Davidson Insurance Flat Track Championship, a new venue with a long, proud history of motorcycle racing has stepped up to fill one of the vacancies.
The State of Minnesota's budget woes doomed the Minnesota Mile (scheduled for September 24 at Canterbury Downs in Shakopee), while the bankruptcy of the non-profit Yavapai County Farm & Agriculture Association signaled a no-go for the October 9 Arizona Mile at Prescott Valley's Yavapai Downs. With that bad news confirmed, AMA Pro staff moved quickly to secure replacements, and Katie Torbert -- promoter at the North Central Speedway in Brainerd, Minnesota -- soon stepped forward to claim the September 24 date.
"Owner Cliff Sasker and myself are extremely excited to have this opportunity to work with and host an AMA Pro Racing event," said Torbert. "Minnesota is lacking in this kind of adrenaline rush and the timing is perfect -- the lakes are too cold, the fairs are all over, and school is in full swing. The bikers are dreading putting away their freedom for yet another season, and this will be a great way to give them that last bit of thrill before the snow flies.
"Sasker is one of the hardest-working and most dedicated track owners you will ever find," added Torbert, "and he'll always do whatever is necessary to make sure fans, racers, and everyone involved is extremely happy. We don't want to waste any valuable time in getting ready for this event, so let's get to work!"
The upper Minnesota town of Brainerd was long a legendary staple on the AMA Pro Road Racing scene, beginning in 1983 and continuing through 2003, and the AMA Pro Racing community is excited to be returning to the area. Additionally, both Canterbury Downs and Yavapai Downs have expressed their desire to be part of the 2012 AMA Pro Flat Track calendar.
