AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Holds 2015 Induction Ceremony in Orlando

The 2015 Yamaha AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, presented by Harley-Davidson was held last night in Orlando, FL. as part of the AIM Expo that has been taking place there for the last few days. The new class including former 2-Time World Champion John Kocinski, former 3-Time 500cc World Champion Wayne Rainey, former Ascot AMA Flat Track Champ Alex Jorgensen and the founder of J&P Cycles, John Parham, among others, were inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame during the big ceremony on the east coast of Florida.

In the shot above, former 2-Time World Champion ('90 250cc & '97 World Superbike) & 3-Time AMA 250cc Champion ('87-'89) John Kocinski acknowledges the crowd while being interviewed after taking the win in the Bultaco Cup event at the Springfield Short Track during the Steve Nace AMA National All-Star Flat Track Series event on September 5, 2015 aboard his ultra-sano and hand-built Knight Frame/Honda CR250 'Red Rider' flat tracker.

Kocinski holds the track record at Perris Speedway in California with this slick machine which is a combination of titanium and carbon fiber, built to the max with help from his father and a combination of race experts in California. To hear this alone sounds like a chain saw on acid with it's big time red line and Kocinski kept it on the pipe all night in winning several events by wide margins against a stacked field of riders including Joe Kopp and Chris Carr.

Kocinski was one of several of the inductees who were enshrined last night in Orlando, and you can check out the full press release below on what went down in Florida during the annual ceremony. A big congrats to all for your accolades last night, they are very well deserved!

AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame inducts six new members, honors one Legend at 2015 induction ceremony

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- October 18, 2015 -- On Saturday, Oct. 17, the American Motorcyclist Association Hall of Fame welcomed the members of the Class of 2015 at the 2015 Yamaha AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, presented by Harley-Davidson.

The ceremony, hosted by actor, motorcyclist and AMA board member Perry King, inducted dirt tracker Alex Jorgensen, road racing champion John Kocinski, longtime Yamaha Motor Corp. U.S.A. race team manager Keith McCarty, entrepreneur and industry patron John Parham, off-road racing champion Rodney Smith and former Harley-Davidson CEO Richard Teerlink.

Also honored was 1999 Hall of Fame inductee and three-time world road racing champion Wayne Rainey as the 2015 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legend, presented by MAG. AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legends are existing Hall of Famers who are being recognized for their ongoing contributions to motorcycling.

"A strong future can only be built on a secure historical footing, and the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame is motorcycling's custodian of that history," said AMA Board of Directors Chair Maggie McNally, speaking at the ceremony. "It is the showcase of those who have built the foundation of American motorcycling. Tonight, it's my honor to welcome six more of these amazing individuals into the Hall of Fame."

Following the Hall of Fame VIP Reception, presented by Suzuki, attendees were treated to a video chronicling each inductee's motorcycling accomplishments. Then each new Hall of Fame member was presented with a Hall of Fame ring, sponsored by Zero Motorcycles.

"With the greatest resolve, each of these icons has placed an indelible mark on motorcycling's past, present and future," said King, as he closed out the evening's ceremony. "From their motorcycles that set and broke world records, to inventions and innovations that revolutionized an industry, to the stories of hard-fought victories, from the racetrack all the way to the halls of government, each member of the Hall of Fame is an enduring testament to the steadfast and unwavering ability to dream big -- and never look back."

The evening concluded with a roll call for all attending Hall of Fame members to join the class of 2015 on the stage. The tribute drew a standing ovation from the room.

The 2015 Yamaha AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, presented by Harley-Davidson, was held in conjunction with AIMExpo. The AIMExpo is a diverse powersports event that welcomes members of the industry, motorcycle media and consumers.

Sponsors of the event included title sponsor Yamaha, presenting sponsor Harley-Davidson, reception sponsor Suzuki Motor of America, ring sponsor Zero Motorcycles, and Hall of Fame Legend sponsor Motorsport Aftermarket Group. Platinum level sponsors included American Honda, BMW of North America, GE Capital and Kawasaki Motors Corp. U.S.A. Manufacturer Elite sponsors were GEICO Motorcycle, Husqvarna Motorcycles and KTM North America. Motion Pro was an Aftermarket Gold sponsor, and Motul and Rea & Associates were Aftermarket Silver sponsors. Service sponsors included AVIS/Budget, Chet Burks Productions and Federal Motorcycle Transport.

John Kocinski

John Kocinski, who began racing as a teenager, won the AMA 250 Grand Prix Championship in 1987, 1988 and 1989 and took the 1989 600 Supersport win at Daytona International Speedway. In 1990, in his first full season with Team Roberts, he won the 250cc World Championship in Europe, claiming eight pole positions and notching seven wins on tracks he had never seen before. In 1997, he won the World Superbike championship, scoring 10 wins on a Honda RC45, the bike's crowning world title.

Kocinski went on to record 18 AMA 250 GP wins. During his career, he raced on teams that included AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame members David Aldana, Erv Kanemoto, Eddie Lawson and Wayne Rainey, including Team Roberts assembled by Kenny Roberts. He officially retired from racing in 2002. Kocinski was inducted into the Hall of Fame in the Road Racing category.

In his induction speech, Kocinski talked about his long career and how it all began with a spark of inspiration, witnessing legendary tuner Bud Aksland work on a Yamaha TZ250 at Daytona in 1982.

"I really can't thank Bud enough for everything he did for me," Kocinski said. "I would like to thank the AMA for being a world-class federation and giving me a place to hone my skills. I want to thank my family for their sacrifices."

Richard Teerlink

Richard Teerlink was part of the executive team responsible for Harley-Davidson's financial turnaround in the late 1980s. As president and CEO, Teerlink helped establish the company's new mission, values, objectives and strategies. His approach included working closely with employees at all levels of the organization, as well as with union leaders. In addition, he believed a participative approach with dealers, suppliers and riders would lead to the development of mutually beneficial relationships.

Teerlink joined Harley-Davidson in 1981 as chief financial officer. That year, the company posted an operating loss of $15.5 million on revenue of $210 million. When Teerlink retired as chairman and CEO in 1999, Harley posted operating profits of $416 million on revenue of $2.45 billion and held nearly 50 percent of the U.S. market for 650cc and larger motorcycles.

"Joining Harley-Davidson as chief financial officer was a life changing experience," Teerlink said. "As CFO and later as CEO, I was able to meet customers face to face, and share the experience and the camaraderie of the open road. And through the Harley Owners Group, my wife and I have had the opportunity to build relationships with riders, customers and friends from all over the world. To be admitted to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame is an honor beyond belief."

Rodney Smith

Rodney Smith started riding motorcycles in the hills of Northern California with his family in the '70s. From there, he blossomed into a local motocross standout and then an international contender. Smith accepted an offer to race in Brazil in 1985 and won five Brazilian national championships. He then moved to the world level and finished third in the 1988 Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme 250cc World Motocross Championships before returning to America in 1990.

Back in the United States, Smith turned his focus to off-road racing, where he became one of the most dominant riders of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Smith won 13 AMA-sanctioned national championship series, including five Grand National Cross Country titles, three AMA National Hare Scrambles titles and five AMA National Reliability Enduro Championships. He also excelled in the International Six Days Enduro, winning multiple gold medals, competing on the premier U.S. Trophy Team and twice earning top-American honors.

"From Day 1 when I was a kid, we were just an average family riding dirt bikes," Smith said. "I never thought in those days, that it would come to this. What a great honor. I never thought I would be up here being inducted into the Hall of Fame."

John Parham

John Parham opened his first shop with a partner in 1975 in his hometown of Anamosa, Iowa. Four years later, he branched out with his wife Jill, starting J. Parham Enterprises. This company came to be known as J&P Cycles. By the 1990s, J&P Cycles had grown into one of the largest motorcycle accessory mail order companies in the world.

Parham stayed on board to run J&P Cycles after selling it to Motorsports Action Group in 2001. At that time, he also focused additional energy and resources on preserving motorcycling history. In 2001, Parham relocated the National Motorcycle Museum to Anamosa, where it has continued to thrive and grow into one of the world's foremost motorcycle museums.

"J&P Cycles was successful because of all of our wonderful employees," Parham said. "Everyone's goal was to provide the best customer service that we could, no matter whether it was to the retail customer, your fellow employees, or the companies we did business with. I wish to thank all of our employees past and present."

Keith McCarty

Keith McCarty's first job as a motorcycle mechanic was for U.S. Suzuki in 1973 for rider Mike Runyard. In 1975-76, he wrenched for AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Tony DiStefano, winning two 250cc AMA National Motocross Championships. When the motocross schedule didn't conflict, he worked with the Hall of Fame duo of Erv Kanemoto and Gary Nixon in road racing.

In January 1977, McCarty began his long career with Yamaha as the mechanic for AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legend Bob "Hurricane" Hannah. McCarty has remained in Yamaha's racing division ever since, working as mechanic, supervisor, department manager and, most recently, division manager for all of Yamaha's U.S. racing activities.

McCarty, who lives in Orange, Calif., is known not only for his technical knowledge, but also for inspirational prowess and organizational acumen that transcends racing disciplines, making him not only an asset for Yamaha but also a valued member of the motorcycling community.

"I want to congratulate the other inductees tonight," McCarty said. "I want to thank my Yamaha family. The thing about being in a family is being certain that someone has your back no matter what, though wins and losses. I'm so proud to be a member of the AMA and to receive this honor tonight."

Alex Jorgensen

Alex "Jorgy" Jorgensen exemplifies the talent, skill and diverse abilities that are trademarks of the greatest AMA Grand National competitors in history. Of the handful of riders who have wins in all four dirt-track disciplines -- short track, TT, half mile and mile -- Jorgensen is the only rider who achieved the feat in his first four Grand National wins, while competing on four different motorcycles -- Can-Am, BSA, Norton and Harley-Davidson.

Jorgensen's career boasts a number of special wins. He is the last rider to win an AMA Grand National on a Norton or BSA, both wins coming at Ascot. He earned Can-Am its first AMA Grand National win.

He also logged the first AMA Grand National victory on Rotax's four-stroke single at the Ascot TT. From 1982 to 2004, the Rotax engine would dominate the highest levels of short-track and TT competition. Along with Gary Scott, Jorgensen holds the record of most AMA Grand National wins at Ascot with six.

"I'm very honored to be here tonight," Jorgensen said. "I want to thank all of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famers who voted for me. I'm so lucky that I raced motorcycles. It allowed me to meet so many people I wouldn't have. I want to thank the AMA for giving me this chance. It's something I'll remember for the rest of my life."

AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legend Wayne Rainey

Wayne Rainey was the top World Championship 500cc Grand Prix rider of the early 1990s, winning three consecutive World Championships riding for Yamaha in 1990, 1991 and 1992. In addition to his accomplishments on the world level, Rainey was also a star of AMA Superbike racing during the 1980s, winning that title in 1983 with Kawasaki and again for Honda in 1987.

Following a career-ending injury while leading the Italian Grand Prix in September 1993, Rainey, who also was in the points lead for a fourth straight title at the time, returned to the sport the next year as a team owner and manager. Rainey retired from that role following the 1998 season.

Today, Rainey is the president of MotoAmerica, the AMA and FIM North America championship road racing series. Rainey was the motive force behind the creation of the new series, serving as both its inspiration and most prominent advocate, insisting the series was necessary to prepare today's American road racers for success on the world stage.

Rainey treated the attendees on a heartfelt ride through his life, recounting his career from the time he started racing to his U.S. championships to his world championships, his injury, his return as a team owner, and finally his commitment to MotoAmerica.

"I want to thank the AMA for originally inducting me in '99," Rainey said. "It's pretty cool that everybody here tonight is connected through motorcycles. Anything is possible. To my son, Rex, when you go through the challenges of your life, I hope you see how I dealt with tough times and let that guide you."

2013 AMA Indoor Dirt Track National Championship Series in DuQuoin Sees Tight Racing & Talented Fields

JD Beach on the #95 USC Racing/Red Bull/Barnett Farms/Bell Helmets-sponsored Kawasaki KX450F lays down a lap during one of the practice sessions at the Springfield Short Track on September 15 at round 12 of the 2012 AMA Pro Flat Track Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com season.

The part-time flat tracker had a weekend off from his duties in the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Series and put it to good use in running the final National for the foreseeable future at the Multipurpose Arena on the Illinois State Fairgrounds.  Beach had a strong showing on the day after qualifying 7th out of the 48 riders on-hand to take a qualifying lap, and pulled off a solid 6th-place finish in the National main and backed that up with a 4th-place finish the next afternoon on the Springfield Mile.

Beach, who makes Philpot, Kentucky his home now, has again been contesting the AMA Indoor Series at the Southern Illinois Center in DuQuoin and is once again making it his personal stomping ground.  Of the three rounds and ten races he has contested thus far in the season, Beach has taken a whopping nine wins.

The series has been seeing a great turnout in terms of amateur and pro talent, and the confines of the Southern Illinois Center's layout and the great promotional and operations work done by the Steve Nace Racing crew has again made for some exceptional racing during the winter break.  Some of the other pros that have been contesting the indoor races so far include among others Jeffrey Carver, Jr. #23, Chad Cose #49 and Brandon Robinson #44.

There are several rounds yet to go with this weekend, December 8 & 9 hosting the next set of events.  You can check out more below from the official press release from the AMA and also see the promotional flyer for the year-end rounds that are scheduled for December 29 & 30.

AMA Indoor Dirt Track National Championship Series brings tight racing, big names to Du Quoin, Ill.

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- December 5, 2012 -- The AMA Indoor Dirt Track National Championship Series is running full throttle at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Du Quoin, Ill., with tight racing and an impressive lineup of Pro and Pro-Am riders highlighting the on-track action in the Steve Nace Racing-promoted series.

"We're having a great series with competitive racing across the board, in both motorcycle and ATV competition.  These riders don't slow down when the outside temperatures drop," said promoter Steve Nace.   "There's a lot of exciting short-track and TT racing on the schedule through late February -- not to mention an indoor, heated facility to keep the fans nice and warm -- so come on out and catch some racing."

One of the tighter championship races is in the 250cc Modified class, where just 1 point separates class leader Kolby Carlile from Canandaigua, N.Y., and Jeffery Lowery from St. Louisville, Ohio. Carlile, who has performed better in the short-track events, has three wins to Lowery's two.

Lowery, however, leads the points in the 251-500cc DTX class and 450 Mod class, where Carlile is fourth in the points.

The Vet riders are also heating up the track. Shawn Granderson from Chandler, Ind., leads the Vet 30+ class and the Senior 40+ class, where Tim Trowbridge from Eau Claire, Mich., sits second in points. James Dean Faulkner from Simpson, Ill., with one short-track win, is keeping Granderson honest in the Vet 30+ class, while Trowbridge currently leads the points chase in the 50+ class.

The fastest racing on the track is the Open Pro-Am competition, which has included current dirt-track and roadracing stars, including JD Beach from Philpot, Ky.; Hayden Gillim from Philpot, Ky.; Chad Cose from Freemont, Calif.; JR Addison from Bucyrus, Ohio; and Jeffrey Carver from Alton, Ill. Addison and Carver are past winners of the AMA Dirt Track Horizon Award, presented to the amateur dirt-track racer poised for success in the pro ranks. Gillim has won the AMA Roadrace Horizon Award.

GoldenTyre Announced as Sponsor & Spec Tire for 2013 Steve Nace Racing AMA All-Star National Flat Track Series

Indianapolis' Mid-America Speedway hosted their 'Night Before the Indy Mile' event on August 17, 2012 and one of the racers that took advantage of Mid-America's great short track venue was 7-Time AMA Grand National Champion Chris Carr.  The Prince of Peoria and the #2 man on the winningest-rider list in AMA Grand National Championship racing history was on-hand to further develop the GoldenTyre flat track rubber that he had been tasked with testing in the States for the European entity.

Carr made the rounds this last season while testing for the Italian company, hitting up several racing venues across the map in order to help test and evaluate what could possibly become at the time a new option for flat track racing rubber.

Today that option became a reality as Chris and GoldenTyreUSA have announced their partership with Steve Nace Racing, one of the best of the best of the AMA Pro Flat Track Blue Crew folks and who also runs the AMA All-Star National Flat Track Series.  GoldenTyreUSA will now be the official spec tire and added sponsor for what is considered the second-tier series on the U.S. flat track scene behind the AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship.

In a move that will see rumoured prices $35-50 less per set for 'DT-II'-equivalent race rubber (Goodyear DT-II rubber currently runs around $190/tire), GoldenTyreUSA and Carr will collaborate to supply tires to the Steve Nace Racing series and also help to establish continency funds for amateur racers, while helping to increase the points fund for the pros in the process.

Carr is shown in the above shot tightening things up after mounting up a new 'DT-II'-spec flat track rear tire at the Mid-America event on his #4 DFW Honda/GoldenTyre-sponsored Honda CRF450R.

You can read the full press release below and we'll be looking forward to seeing GoldenTyre at the All-Star races next season.  Once the schedule is released for the 2013 Steve Nace Racing AMA All-Star National Flat Track Series by GoldenTyre you can find that at Steve's official site as listed below.

AMA All-Star National Flat Track Series by GoldenTyre

November 29, 2012

The 2013 AMA All Star National Flat Track Series gains support from European tire manufacturer GoldenTyre through US importer, CC4 LLC.  This agreement will insure competitors with great tires at more reasonable prices, with contingency money opportunities for amateur competitors, and an increase in the points fund for professional racers at all 2013 AMA All Star National Flat Track Series rounds.  GoldenTyre will also assist the Series with unique and engaging marketing strategies while introducing their brand to the American market.

GoldenTyre is officially the Spec Tire for the 2013 AMA All Star National Flat Track Series in the amateur and professional classes utilizing 19" wheels.  The new CC5 and CC4 tires were inspired through rigorous testing by Chris Carr, 7-Time AMA Grand National Champion.  Competitors wishing to pre-order their tires can contact Chris Carr, owner of CC4,LLC, at (610) 888-3518 or via e-mail at:  ccarr41197@aol.com.

Chris Carr, CC4 LLC:  "I can think of no better place than the AMA All Star National Flat Track Series to introduce the GoldenTyre Brand of flat track tires to the amateur and pro flat track market.  Steve Nace and his crew have done more to promote amateur flat track racing than any single organization in recent memory.  I look forward to providing additions to the pro points fund as well as contingency programs for the amateurs in what has become a great series of races".

Marco Cavallini, Goldentyre President:  " We are extremely excited to start this collaboration with Steve Nace and Chris Carr.  We believe that Flat Track is the root of American Motorcycle Racing and we are happy to be able to work with the All Star Flat Track Series and Chris Carr to bring innovation and a fresh push to this discipline."

Steve Nace, All Star Series President:  "We believe this collaboration will be positive for the sport of flat track.   We are excited to bring a new, affordable product to the racers.  GoldenTyre & CC4 LLC have put forth great effort in the design & development of their competition tires.   We are thankful for the opportunity to introduce both the professional and amateur competitors of American flat track racing to this new competitive tire through the AMA All Star National Flat Track Series by GoldenTyre.   Not only will this initially double the professional points fund, it will also give the amateur racers a chance to earn tires through a contingency program."

Steve Nace Racing All-Star AMA National Flat Track Series Heads to Peoria June 15 & 17

With yet another 15 days before round 5 of the 2012 AMA Pro Flat Track Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com season heads to the pea gravel-slinging Lima, OH. half-mile at the Allen County Fairgrounds, Steve Nace Racing's All-Star AMA National Flat Track Series heads to the Peoria Speedway today and on to the Peoria Motorcycle Club's famed TT track on Sunday June 17, just two weeks after the Dairyland Classic in Plymouth, WI. and the Chilton, WI. short track rounds.

For those of you unfamiliar with Steve's All-Star Series, based out of Paducah, KY., Steve Nace, Kelly Bell, Kevin Snyder and a host of other super folks run a national-caliber flat track series on some of their off-weekends when not doing their thing for AMA Pro Flat Track.  For several years now, Nace and his crew have been putting on a full schedule of races, hitting some of the fairground tracks throughout the nation that attracts riders from all around for the action.

In the shot above, Jared Mees can be seen from round 15 of the 2011 AMA Pro Flat Track Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com season at the Springfield Short Track on September 3.  Mees had an uncharacteristic finish at Springfield on his #9 Lucas Oil/National Cycle/Rogers Lake Racing/Montgomeryville Cycle-sponsored Honda CRF450R by finishing in the 10th spot that evening.

Mees, who regularly campaigns the SNR All-Star Series, is last year's double champion in the Expert Singles and Expert Twins Series classes and is coming off of a double win two weekends ago at the Plymouth and Chilton, WI. rounds.  Plymouth just celebrated it's 28th annual event that has been promoted by Bert Sumner and has been followed by one of SNR's events in the area for some years now.

Mees is one of a big handful of AMA Pro Flat Track racers who will be on-hand this weekend trying to steal the show at tonight's Peoria Speedway round and Sunday's Peoria TT round.

You can check out the flyer below to get all of this weekend's event info, and if you are in the area you owe it to yourself to head to both rounds to see a great program with a super bunch of people running the show.  Most of these events are like 'mini-Nationals' so you should see at least one or two of your favorite riders on-hand trying to capture all the glory and give some of the National riders a run for their money.

2012 Flat Track Season Starts Tomorrow as Steve Nace Racing's AMA All Star National Flat Track Series Kicks Off in Savannah on March 9

When round 6 of the 2011 AMA Pro Flat Track Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com was finally ready to go at the running of the Springfield Mile I on May 30, former Grand National Championship competitor (and former National #23) Kevin Atherton and Lloyd Brothers Motorsports co-owner Dave Lloyd were ready to go at the legendary Illinois State Fairground oval.  Getting the bikes through AMA Pro Flat Track's tech check process was just the first step in ensuring that their new rider, Brad Baker, and his Ducati 1098-based mounts were also ready to go.

As it ended up, they all were indeed ready as Baker went on to not only nail down fast time in his first full-time ride on a Twins Series machine, but by also winning the fastest heat of the day on the LBM/TeamHurtByAccident.com/Foremost Insurance/ENI USA-sponsored mounts.  Unfortunately a front end wobble forced him to "settle" for 5th in the 18 rider National main event, but at day's end the future 2011 AMA Pro Flat Track Rookie of the Year and the Lloyd Brothers team knew that they had a great year ahead of them.

Fast forward to the fast-approaching 2012 AMA Pro Flat Track season.  Baker has gone off to ride Kawasakis for Kenny Tolbert and Bill Werner, and the LBM team is forced to look for their third new rider in the last three seasons.

Not so fast.........

Turning to a man who has worked with the team in the past, and who before Joe Kopp had won the Arizona Mile I in May 2010, had gotten the team their best finish in an AMA Grand National race (at Lima several years before on their Aprilia-based mount), co-owners Mike and Dave Lloyd signed on 2-Time AMA Grand National Singles Champion Henry Wiles to fill the seat of the Ducati-based V-twins.  The machine proudly displayed Wiles' National #17 at Indy several weeks ago while it was on display in the Lloyd Brothers and ENI USA booth.

In what is surely a win-win situation for the Lloyd Brothers team AND for star rider Wiles, their season officially starts tomorrow as the 2012 Steve Nace Racing AMA All Star National Flat Track Series drops the first green flag on the new season at Oglethorpe Speedway Park outside of Savannah, GA.  And this team, along with a BIG handful of AMA Grand National Championship regulars, will be on-hand to kick the flat track season into full gear for the new year.

Talking with team co-owner Dave Lloyd last night, the team is "very excited to get going for the new year.  We've been down here for the last couple of days, used Wednesday for a test day for us and Henry to get a baseline going, and are planning on running the practice session on Thursday (today, March 8) to help us further dial in the bikes."

According to Lloyd, five of the team members are on-hand in Savannah.  "Yeah, between the five of us we are sharing one motel room.  Henry and I were up until 2:30 AM the night before, talking the night away about the new year.  I'm getting ready to go blow up my air mattress to sleep in the motor home tonight.  We're all real pumped about the new year and ready to go racing.  I've only got a few loose ends to tie up with our sponsorship, but everything looks pretty good for us in that respect."

When I got a chance to talk with Dave's brother, Mike at the 2012 Indy Dealer Expo back on February 17-18, he also was looking forward to having Henry in the seat and getting the year going.  "We really tried to put things together with Hank for last year, and things fell apart at the last minute.  He's a great young man and knows bike control, and we all know one another well from our past relationship."

Another big change for the team this year is that the 'Ducati' name has been removed (unfortunately) from the tank.  And since the Springfield Mile II round in September 2011, has been adorned with 'NickyHayden.com.'  Per Mike Lloyd, the team took Ducati's name off of the bike.  "The best help they would give us was dealer cost on parts.  After all of the exposure we have gotten them in this sport, we took it off.  I can get that kind of break at any Ducati dealer in the nation."  As a result, the LBM name and Nicky Hayden's name are central to the tank now of the 2012 versions of the bike.

The bike in front in the tech line shot, above, is the original 1098-based mount that the team started with a few years ago.  "Yeah, that's the first motor we worked with when we switched to Ducati that Larry Pegram had in his garage.  It's also one of the four we have ready to go now, two for the half-miles and two for the mile races," stated Mike.  It's also one of the two that Nicky Hayden kicked in some money and sponsorship for to help them rebuild after it let go at the Sacramento Mile late last July.  "I can't say enough about Nicky, he's just an all-around great guy."  And according to both brothers, once The Kentucky Kid returns to flat track after his MotoGP career is over "he'll always have a ride with us!"

As it turned out, that plan falling apart  for '11 actually worked better for everyone, except Henry of course.  After suffering a leg injury at round 3 in DuQuoin, Hammerin' Hank pulled off what only someone of his style and caliber of rider could, and went out to Salinas and won the short track the next weekend.  But when the weekend was over, Hank was under the knife to repair his injuries and his season looked dim, at best, at the end of April.

Little did anyone know-except Hank!-that less then three months later he would be back on a Twins machine (at Lake Odessa riding for Greg Crow Racing) and finishing 12th on the night.  Less then 30 days later, Hammerin' Hank returned to the track he all but owns and won his 7th consecutive Peoria TT.  And 15 days later backed it up with his 5th win-in-a-row at the Springfield Short Track.

"Our testing went real well today," continued Dave in our conversation from last night, "and we are really excited to be working with Henry again this year.  Kevin (Atherton) is working again with us this year and is down here with us, too.  We got a lot done today, and tomorrow we'll run the practice session and be ready to race come Friday night."

With that practice session set to start in a matter of minutes (as of this writing), the Lloyd Brothers Motorsports team and a large contingent of AMA Pro Flat Track regulars look to converge on the first flat track race of the 2012 season.  Riders like Jared Mees, Jake Johnson, Sammy Halbert, Brad Baker and a LARGE handful of others will be on-track tonight to iron out what kinks may need ironing before the first green flag drops on the new season of racing.

But the Lloyd Brothers team will have one big thing going for them which they haven't had in several years.  A great rider that has worked with the team in the past.  And that in itself should help put them at least a step-or two-ahead of the start of their last couple of seasons.  Should that step make the difference, then one of the hardest working teams (and most likeable) in flat track racing will be ready to jump on it.  It's sure going to be fun to watch as it all unfolds this year!

Good luck to the LBM team, as well as all of the other competitors in the Steve Nace and AMA Pro Flat Track series for the 2012 season.  I'm ready to get this motor running!

The sheer determination of a champion is shown in the face of Henry Wiles as he gets ready to lead the 18-rider field away for the start of round 14 of the 2011 AMA Pro Flat Track Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com at the Peoria TT on August 21.  25 laps and just less than 11 minutes later, Hammerin' Hank would make a return to winning as he would win his 7th consecutive National main event at the track he has all but owned since the '04 season (the '07 race was rained out) on his #17 Monster Energy Kawasaki/Jones Bros/Don's Kawasaki/Shift Racing-sponsored KX450F.

Wiles will again be riding the Don's/Jones Brothers Kawis in the 2012 Single Series events, and will be returning to a team in the Twins Series in which he is very familiar, again riding for the Lloyd Brothers team he last rode for during the '09 season.

With this great pairing for the 2012 season, fans of AMA Pro Flat Track have alot to look forward to for the new year!

Steve Nace Racing's '12 AMA Indoor Dirt Track National Championship Series Final Round in DuQuoin This Sunday, February 26

Round 6 of the 2011 AMA Pro Flat Track Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com saw the series convening on Memorial Day, Monday May 30 for the Springfield TT, after a rain delay from the previous Saturday caused the round to be pushed back and having to run after the Sunday Springfield Mile I round.  Considering the amount of water that had pooled up inside the Springfield Rodeo/Multipurpose Arena, AMA Pro Flat Track and the track crew headed up by former AMA Grand National competitor and National #42, Steve Morehead, did one heckuva job in getting and keeping the track in-shape for the 53 riders that had entered the event.

Relaxing in between sessions in his pit area, Cory Texter leans over his #65 RLT Racing/Herr's/Invisible Glass/Penske Racing-sponsored Honda CRF450R while looking over his sister Shayna's #25A Pro Singles mount while the rest of the crew takes a break under the awning on a hot and drippy day at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

CTex, who will be running the full schedule in the 2012 AMA Pro Flat Track Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com season after a partial run of the previous year, has been doing some off-season testing and riding preparing for the upcoming 19-scheduled round year.

He is heading to DuQuoin, IL. with his RLT Racing mounts this weekend in what will most likely be his last on-track time before heading to Daytona for the season-opening rounds on March 15-16.  Steve Nace Racing is wrapping up their excellent running of the indoor rounds inside the Southern Illinois Center this weekend, with a practice schedule set for tomorrow night, Friday February 24 from 6-9 P.M. CST and a full-schedule of racing set for Sunday, February 26.  Quads and karts will take to the track on Saturday to fill out a busy weekend of racing at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds facility.

Cory will be joining regulars JD Beach, Jeffrey Carver, Jr., Rob Pearson, Ryan Wells and Indy's own Dan Ingram for the final round of the season before all pack up to head to Daytona in March.

If you are in the area and wanting a great racing fix, DuQuoin is the place to be as Steve Nace, Kelly and Kevin and the rest of the SNR crew put on one heckuva show.  And I wouldn't be surprised to see a few other heads on-hand at DuQuoin this weekend to close out the indoor season.

Steve Nace Racing Releases 2012 AMA Racing All Star National Flat Track Series Schedule

Round 14 of the 2011 AMA Pro Flat Track Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com at the infamous Peoria TT found Jared Mees working in and about his pit area in preparation for the day's activities about to begin at the central Illinois facility.  The Jammer had a very productive day on the #9 Lucas Oil/National Cycle/Rogers Lake/Montgomeryville Cycle-sponsored Honda CRF450R in winning his heat race over Sammy Halbert, JD Beach and Chris Carr and taking the win in the Dash for Cash event over Henry Wiles and Jake Johnson.

Mees ended the day 2nd in the National main behind 7-Time Peoria TT winner Wiles, with Halbert, Johnson and Illinois resident Rob Pearson rounding out the top 5.  Mees' crew chief Brent Armbruster can be seen sitting in the back of the pit area talking before getting ready to help his rider for the day.

One of the busiest men in flat track-or any form of motorcycle racing for that matter-the '09 & '11 AMA Grand National Twins Champion also contests a handful of other events throughout the year.  Having just claimed his fourth ICE Speedway Series Manufacturers Cup Bike Championship, he also spends time racing some of Gene Romero's West Coast events as well as a few of Eddie Mulder's west coast races.  During the 2011 season, Mees finished 2nd in the AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship Series, while taking the Twins Championship for his run of five series wins throughout the year on his Rogers Lake Racing fleet of XRs.

But where he probably really cleaned house at was while riding in Steve Nace Racing's AMA All Star Flat Track Series throughout the season, where he won the points battle in both the Expert Twins and Expert Singles classes by a landslide.

Look for Jammin' Jared and a host of other Grand National regulars to compete in the 2012 Steve Nace Racing AMA All Star Flat Track Series, of which the press release and schedule you can check out below.

Make sure you mark your calendars for some great racing coming down the pike this season, as the Steve Nace crew of Steve, Kelly, Kevin and the rest of the all star SNR folks put on a great show for the fans!
