American Motorcyclist Association Announces it Will Sanction American Sportbike Racing Association Daytona 200 on March 12

American Motorcyclist Association announces sanction for 2016 American Sportbike Racing Association Daytona 200

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- February 23, 2016 -- The American Motorcyclist Association is pleased to announce that it will sanction the 75th running of the Daytona 200 on March 12 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla.

"Without a doubt, the Daytona 200 is a historic motorcycle race, known not just by American riders but by riders around the world," said AMA Director of Racing Bill Cumbow. "Indeed, with an AMA sanction, international riders governed by non-U.S. motorcycling federations can more easily secure the start permissions they need to compete at this storied event."

The American Sportbike Racing Association event is a standalone premier American road race. While the 2016 Daytona 200 is not part of the AMA-sanctioned professional road racing series in which riders earn points toward an AMA National No. 1 plate, it remains an important part of America's motorcycle racing heritage.

In 2016, the 57-lap, 200-mile endurance race on the 3.51-mile road course will feature modified 600cc sportbikes. Tickets to the 2016 Daytona 200 are available at www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com.

The Daytona 200 will headline additional AMA-sanctioned amateur road racing events at Daytona International Speedway during Bike Week. For more information and to register to race, see www.asraracing.com/2015-Daytona200.html.

Bill Werner, Dave Zanotti and Stan Simpson to Fund 2015 AMA Horizon Award at AMA Dirt Track Grand Championship at DuQuoin July 6-10

Racers at AMA Dirt Track Grand Championship to compete for AMA Fast Brain Award

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- June 2, 2015 -- Racers at the AMA Dirt Track Grand Championship in Du Quoin, Ill., July 6-10, not only will race for AMA National No. 1 plates, but some of the fastest -- and brightest -- also will compete for the AMA Fast Brain Award, which includes an educational scholarship for the award winner.

"AMA champions represent the best of the best on the racetrack," said AMA Chief Operations Officer Jeff Massey. "But while we value the speed and athletic ability necessary to win titles, we also recognize the dedication it takes to stand out in academics."

Funded by AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Bill Werner, Zanotti Racing's Dave Zanotti and AMA Life Member Stan Simpson, the 2015 AMA Fast Brain Award and its $1,500 educational scholarship benefit a young racer whose talent with a throttle is matched by his or her aptitude in the classroom.

"While success on the racetrack is a lot of fun, success in life also depends on hard work in school," said Werner, a longtime sponsor of the AMA Fast Brain Award. "I'm pleased to contribute to this scholarship to provide a current recipient with additional resources to fund their further education, and to incentivize future recipients to work hard in the classroom as well as behind the handlebars."

Mid-America Speedway Announces 2015 Season Schedule

Indianapolis, IN. – March 31, 2015 – Mid-America Speedway in Indianapolis would like to announce their new schedule for the upcoming 2015 season, which kicks off next month with the first event of the season on Saturday, April 25 with their annual spring event, the Flat-Track Forums Night (http://flat-track.com/forum/). This year Mid-America Speedway will be hosting and supporting a total of 14 races throughout the 2015 season.

Track president and race promoter Jim Terchila and his great crew will again preside over the racing action at the Marion County Fairgrounds-hosted track, located on Indy's southeast side. “We're looking forward to the new season ahead, and this year includes our regularly scheduled regional races to go along with what will be our hosting of two big premier events at our facility.

“This year's schedule will include our third year of hosting the AMA Vintage Dirt Track National Series sponsored by Harley-Davidson of Bloomington, IN. on August 8 during the Red Bull Indianapolis MotoGP Weekend, and our annual Night Before the Indy Mile race that is scheduled for July 10 and will again see a $1500 payout in the Open Class pro race. This year's race will be held the Friday night before the AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship stop at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on July 11,” stated Terchila.

“We are also partnering this year for the first time with the 3rd Annual Hoosier Bike Rally in Frankfort, IN. and we will be running a limestone half-mile race at the Clinton County Fairgrounds on September 12, which will be a part of the three days of festivities over the September 10-13 weekend that will also feature food, music, a car & truck cruise along with our first-ever half-mile race. You can find out more about this big weekend at their website, http://homegrownbiker.com/hoosierbikerally.

“We're very proud of what we have been able to do over the years thanks to the folks at the Marion County Fairgrounds, and in what will be our 8th year of operation we have also updated our track logo for the first redesign in our history to honor local racer and hero Dan Ingram, AMA Grand National #31 who recently announced his retirement from full-time racing. Dan is a long-time supporter and competitor at Mid-America and we wanted to do something special for him to honor his many years of support at our facility.”

The track would also like to remind everyone about the season-ending Halloween race, one of the facility's best-attended events of each year. “Traditionally this has been our 2nd-biggest event each year and it includes costumes and a 25-lap Open Class main event that pays a minimum of $500 to win. With just over three weeks to go before the first race of the season, it's not too early to start marking your calendars and making plans for what will be another thrilling and exciting season of racing at Mid-America Speedway as we look forward to hosting some of the best flat track racers and fans in the Midwest. AMA Releases Sporting Rules for Professional Road Racing Classes in MotoAmerica Series

AMA announces sporting rules for MotoAmerica

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- February 26, 2015 -- The American Motorcyclist Association has published the 2015 sporting regulations governing the professional road-racing classes for MotoAmerica, the new home of the AMA Superbike Series.

The sporting regulations cover race-day procedures, event operational standards, scheduling conventions and the qualifying process.

"A number of regulations and procedures were adopted from world-championship competition," said AMA Director of Competition Bill Cumbow. "This supports our goal of developing American riders to compete on the international level."

The sporting rules also were designed to create excitement for American road-racing fans.

"One element that fans will enjoy is the inclusion of Superpole for qualifying," said MotoAmerica Race Operations Manager Niccole Cox. "Superpole determines the top 20 grid positions in two 15-minute shootout sessions, adding another level of challenge to the Superbike and Superstock 1000 riders. Vintage dirt-track competitors chase titles in AMA Vintage Dirt Track National Championship Series

Recognition acknowledges outstanding motorcyclists

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- February 9, 2015 -- Competitors in the most American of motorsports, vintage motorcycle dirt-track racing, will launch their campaigns for AMA National No. 1 plates on March 7 in Savannah, Ga., with the start of the 14-round 2015 AMA Vintage Dirt Track National Championship Series.

"From the early days of the 20th Century, racers have been battling for glory on America's dirt ovals, and the AMA Vintage Dirt Track National Championship Series keeps this time-honored sport alive," said AMA Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant. "The history of American motorcycling was written by companies who challenged each other for dirt-track racing supremacy, in both original factory Class-A competition in the 1920s and the Class-C production-based format that continues today."

The AMA Vintage Dirt Track National Championship Series recognizes national champions in period-correct classes that reflect the storied history of AMA dirt-track competition. Class winners are honored at the annual AMA Championship Banquet, which recognizes national champions in all amateur racing disciplines.

Class rules and equipment regulations are available at www.americanmotorcyclist.com/racing/rules/. The full series schedule is below.

The first three rounds of the 2015 AMA Vintage National Dirt Track Championship Series run in conjunction with the AMA-sanctioned amateur dirt-track program that has grown up around Daytona Bike Week.

Following Bike Week, the 14-round series travels through Illinois, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin before returning to New York for the Sept. 26-27 finale in Cuddebackville, N.Y.
