Chaz Davies Wins 2011 World Supersport Championship For ParkinGO Yamaha Team

Chaz Davies bends the #57 Attack Performance/Kawasaki-sponsored ZX-6R through the turn 11 section at Road America during one of the practice sessions for the AMA Formula Xtreme Series round of the AMA Pro Road Racing Series in June 2008.  Davies would later qualify in the 6th spot for the Formula Xtreme Series with a time of 2:21.605 and an average of 103.229 mph at the four mile course in Elkhart Lake, WI.  Davies would finish in the same spot in the Formula Xtreme final, 4.563 seconds behind event winner Aaron Gobert on a Rockwall Honda.

The Brit born and bred rider headed over to the World Supersport Championship Series in late '09 after the end of the AMA Pro Road Racing Series, which he had contested for the Aprilia team in the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Series Championship.  Contesting three races for the ParkinGO team on their Triumph 675-based mounts, Chaz returned in the 2010 season to end up fourth in the overall standings. while riding the 3-cylinder machines.

Switching to Yamaha's potent YZF-R6 for the 2011 season, the team took possession of Team Yamaha's 2009 World Supersport Championship-winning machines early in the season, and proved that the machines were still up to the task, winning five rounds on the year to date.  Cal Crutchlow had previously taken the machines to the '09 Championship while under the Yamaha factory tent. 

Davies season started out rough when crashing out of the season-opening round at Phillip Island in late February, but went on a tear in posting results of 2-1-1 finishes in the next three rounds.  The UK resident then went on to win three of the next five rounds of the season, taking a third place along the way at Brno in early July, and wrapping it up with a hard-earned 6th place finish at last weekend's round in France.

Chaz Davies Breaks Through for 1st-Time World Supersport Win With ParkinGO Yamaha YZF-R6

Chaz Davies throws the #57 Attack Performance Kawasaki ZX-6R into turn 11 at Road America during a wet practice session for the AMA Formula Xtreme Series as part of the Suzuki Superbike Doubleheader round at the Elkhart Lake, WI. track in June of 2008.  Combined with his win at the Daytona 200 earlier in the year and another podium finish at Barber Motorsports Park, Davies ended the year ranked in the 5th position in the overall Formula Xtreme Series Championship for the 2008 season.
Davies had previously also ridden for Celtic Racing in Supersport and Superstock competition, and at the end of the '09 season and a year of competition in the AMA Daytona SportBike Class riding for the Aprilia factory, he took a couple of 'try-out' rides in World Supersport with the ParkinGO Racing team and agreed to ride the team's Triumph Daytona 675s during the 2010 campaign.  With four podiums to his credit, he finished fourth in the final year-end standings (and first non-Japanese manufacturer.)  The team, however, wasn't able to come to terms with Triumph for the 2011 season, and switched over to Yamaha YZF-R6s for the 2011 season.  Yamaha Motor Europe supplied the team with the '09-spec R6s that Cal Crutchlow used to take the '09 World Supersport Championship with, and is also lending the team some factory support along the way.
Chaz took his first win in the series (in 19 total events he has ridden in) last Sunday, and now sits third in the standings, five points behind team mate Luca Scassa and two points behind Kawasaki rider Broc Parkes.  With ten more rounds left in the 2011 season, look for Chaz to keep improving his learning and riding curve as he has done throughout his riding career.  It should be a fun season and he will surely add to his six total podiums and breakout win as the season progresses.

Chaz Davies finally broke through and broke his cherry in the FIM World Supersport Championship this last weekend and took the win at Assen aboard his Yamaha ParkinGO Racing Team R6, besting a full field, dodging two red flags and taking the win by just over seven seconds after an eventful round.  Davies has progressively been moving up the charts in the series even more so now that the team is equipped with the Yamaha YZF-R6s, and if not for a tire that let him down at the first round at Philip Island in February could very well have been leading the championship standings after three rounds instead of being five points in arrears to team mate Luca Scassa.

The popular Englishman, who raced for several years here in the States in the AMA Road Racing Series, was a four-time podium finisher last year in the series while riding the ParkinGO Triumph Daytona 675.  But with the team unable to come to terms with Triumph for the 2011 season, Davies has found himself improving even more on the team's Yamaha R6s.

Davies signed on with the ParkinGo BE1 Triumph World Supersport team for the 2010 season and was the 'best of the rest' this season in finishing 4th in the 2010 World Supersport Championship and carding four podiums, including his fine run home to 3rd place today at the final round in Magny Cours, France. The top three finishers in the series all ran Japanese four cylinders built on the 600 inline-based platform, whereas the Triumph is a three cylinder, thusly the 'CC' advantage in the engine size department. Davies will be back with the team for the 2011 season trying to improve on his and the team's great season on the Daytona 675 Speed Triple-based machines. Good job Chaz and congrats!

Chaz Davies, who from 2007-2009 was campaigning the AMA Road Racing Series aboard Attack Performance Kawasakis and Celtic Racing Yamahas in the AMA 600 Supersport Series and the AMA Formula Xtreme Series (among others), finished a great run in the World Supersport Championship in his first full year and brought the Triumph ParkinGO BE1 team's Daytona 675-based machine home in 3rd place today at Magny Cours,France to finish out the season ranked fourth in the championship race. The always-hard charger fought through until the end to card his fourth podium of the year in the World Supersport Championship and finish the year ranked 4th in the overall championship, and what could be termed the 'best of the rest.'

With the series main protagonists running the 'more preferred' 600 inline four cylinder platform in the highly competitive series, Team ParkinGO Triumph took on the task of fielding four riders on the British marque with it's mid-size and very popular three cylinder 675CC machines. After having spent time in Europe racing various other series over the years, and being British himself, Chaz filled the bill that the team needed to stay and race up at the front in one of the world's most competitive series, and to be able to regularly bring his equipment home.
Out of 13 rounds on the season, there was only one round he failed to finish-last weekend's round in Imola. Since the third round in Valencia in early April, Chaz was able to stay in the hunt for the season and held the fourth spot firm in the championship standings throughout the rest of the year. Talk about consistency! All the while, the top three in the championship were all inline-4 mounted.

Great job Chaz and we're looking forward to seeing you back on track in the 2011 World Supersport Championship!

Chaz Davies Scores 2nd World Supersport Podium at Kyalami

On a drying track, Chaz Davies looks for the dry line with a fresh slick mounted on his #57 Attack Performance Kawasaki ZX-6R during the first practice session of the weekend at Road America for the AMA Formula Xtreme class in June of 2008. Chaz switched to the Attack team for the '08 season and ran both the AMA FX and AMA 600 Supersport classes for the team, winning the Daytona 200 and finishing 5th in the FX class and finishing 6th in the 600 SS class for the year. The Brit rider moved to the Aprilia RSV1000R factory team for the Daytona Sportbike class in '09 and placed 9th in the final standings for the year.
Chaz got the opportunity to run several World Supersport races for the ParkinGO Triumph BE-1 team after the '09 AMA season was wrapped up, and signed with them in the off-season to return to the class aboard the team's Triumph Daytona 675 triple. Through yesterday's event in South Africa, Chaz has maintained 4th place in the season's standings to go along with his first podium back at Valencia.

Chaz' first foray into the American AMA series was with the Celtic Racing team during the '07 season. He ran both the AMA 600 Supersport series as well as the AMA Formula Xtreme series for the team. The team ran Yamaha YZF-R6's and Chaz finished 13th in the 600SS and 6th in FX class for the season. The #157 bike above is the DOT tire-equipped 600-class machine sitting in Celtic's pit area at Mid Ohio in July of '07. The bike in rear left of photo is the team's FX class-based machine.
Chaz also raced a 250GP bike in MotoGP in several events during the '06 season, with a best of 13th at Jerez while running for an under-funded team. He has also raced the 125 class in the British Championship back in the early part of the '00's.

Great news for fans of Brit Chaz Davies as he took his second podium of the year yesterday at Kyalami during the South African round of the World Supersport series. Placing 3rd to retain and strengthen his 4th place series standings, Davies took the Italian-based ParkInGO Triumph BE-1 team's triple Daytona 675 to within 10 seconds of the top spot after the 23 lap race that runs along with the World Superbike Series calendar.
The 23 year old Brit, who gained a strong fan base in the States while running for Celtic Racing in 2007, Attack Performance in '08 and Aprilia Racing in '09, signed with the ParkInGO team during the off season after running the last three events for the team in '09. Teamed with former U.S. teamster Jason DiSalvo on the Triumph Daytona 675 triple machines, Davies has had the better of results between the two team mates thus far after six rounds down in the series schedule.
