Kenny Coolbeth, Jr. Takes 2nd Win of the Season at AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship GNC1 Delaware Half-Mile, Davis Fisher Wins GNC2 Race & Wraps Up Championship

Round 13 of the 2015 AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship Harley-Davidson GNC1 presented by Vance & Hines series hit the east coast last night, and former 3-Time AMA Grand National Champion Kenny Coolbeth, Jr. dominated the 25-lap National main to take the 35th win of his long and illustrious career in front of what was reported as a large crowd at the Delaware Half-Mile.

After qualifying in the 4th-place spot behind Jake Johnson, Dominic Collindres and Nichole Mees, the King of Cool was able to bring it home just behind series points leader Jared Mees in the first heat to qualify for the Dash for Cash, where he went on to turn the tables on The Jammer and take the win and the extra bonus point that goes along with it. Starting from the pole in the main, Coolbeth set sail during both portions of the red flag-delayed event (which saw Sammy Halbert crash out, mostly unhurt, but ruining his evening and his mark of all  top-9s on the season.)

In the end, Coolbeth took the win by just over 1.6 seconds over runner-up Jeffrey Carver, Jr. on the #23 Don's Kawasaki (in his best-ever Twins finish) and 3rd-place finisher Jake Johnson on the #5 factory H-D XR750 (and his second top-3 in-a-row.) Rounding out the top-5 was Collindres in another super solid run on the #66 Babe Demay-tuned Memphis Shades Yamaha and Rookie of the Year lock Jarod Vanderkooi on the #17F Don's Kawasaki (in his second top-5 and fourth top-10 of the season.)

In the shot above, Coolbeth is seen on the #2 Zanotti Racing/H-D Motor Co/Gator H-D-sponsored and Dave Atherton-tuned XR750 prior to the start of practice at round 12 of the 2015 AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship Harley-Davidson GNC1 presented by Vance & Hines class at the Springfield Mile II on September 6.

Of note for last night's event, Nichole Mees in her last season of full-time racing crashed out in her heat on the #15 Black Hills H-D XR750 and suffered an eye socket fracture that will require some follow-up surgery, per her husband Jared's Facebook post from last night and today, and Mikey Martin suffered a crash during qualifying on the #91 Weirbach Racing Kawasaki that saw him beaten, banged up and sore, but apparently with no major serious injuries.

Title battle men Jared Mees on the #1 Rogers Racing XR and Bryan Smith on the #42 Howerton Motorsports Kawasaki both suffered from problems in Delaware during the National main. Mees jumped the start and was relegated to the fourth row for the start, as was Smith who was forced to the back due to having to roll out his back up for the main. In the end, Mees ended up in 8th-place in the final, and Smith ended the night in 14th-place after suffering more shifter-related problems during the race. They leave Delaware with Mees still back out front of the championship battle by seven points, 188-181 points.

A big congrats to Kenny Coolbeth on his great win last night, and to the rest of the great competitors in The Rolling Thunder Show for another fine show!

Full results from last night's event can be seen here thanks to AMA Pro Flat Track, and Larry Lawrence put together this fine report from last night's race on Cycle News.com.

In the AMA Pro GNC2 race, Dashin' Davis Fisher took his fourth win of the season on the #67M Parkinson Brothers Kawasaki to wrap up the championship title in the class with two rounds remaining, and become the youngest winner of a Pro Singles/Twins/GNC2 championship since the class' inception in the 2009 season. Last night's win marked Fisher's fourth win of the season and ninth top-2 finish of the year.

In the shot above, Fisher is surrounded by the lovely ladies of Harley-Davidson and Vance & Hines racing getting ready to be interviewed on the podium by AMA Pro Flat Track and FansChoice.TV's Dani Medin after taking the win in the GNC2 class at the Springfield Mile II on the #67M Parkinson Brothers Racing/Racing Unlimited/Bob Lanphere's Beaverton Motorcycles-backed Kawasaki on September 6, 2015. Also celebrating are runner-up Tristan Avery #16S (L) and 3rd-place finisher Ryan Wells #94B (R.)

A big congrats to new champion Davis Fisher on his wrapping up of the title. Fisher, along with riders Bronson Bauman (2nd-place last night on the #30Z Lombardi's H-D XR) and Dan Bromley (3rd-place last night on the #54 Bill Werner Racing Kawasaki) along with Ryan Wells and several other great racers in the GNC2 class are living proof that the future of AMA Pro Flat Track's Rolling Thunder Show is in great shape as these fine young men work their way to the top of the ranks in the greatest racing series on two wheels in the world!

After last week's announcement that the Calistoga Half-Mile was to be postponed due to the devastation of the California wild fires that have created so much destruction and forced hundreds and possibly thousands not only out of but without their homes, the series awaits the word on when/if the race will be rescheduled. As it stands as of now, rescheduling is in the works, dependent obviously on Mother Nature and the ability to get the fires under control. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who are going through the devastation out west and hope things get brought under control soon so everyone can get back to some semblance of normalcy in their lives.

Kenny Coolbeth Jr. wins wild GNC1 main at the Roar on the Shore
Davis Fisher clinches GNC2 championship with fourth victory of 2015

DELMAR, Del. (Sept. 19, 2015) - Kenny Coolbeth, Jr. started fast and finished faster on Saturday night at the Roar on the Shore in Delmar, Del. The No. 2 Zanotti Racing Harley-Davidson rider led all 25 laps of the Harley-Davidson GNC1 presented by Vance & Hines main event at Delaware International Speedway to earn his second win of the 2015 AMA Pro Flat Track season.

Coolbeth's victory brought the packed house to their feet when he crossed the finish line 1.661 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Jeffrey Carver, Jr. With the win, Coolbeth now sits third in the Harley-Davidson GNC1 presented by Vance & Hines point standings and the victory marked his 35th in a long and successful career at the top level of the sport.

"This win feels really good," said Coolbeth, Jr. "And it's all due to great people. If it wasn't for the Atherton family and Dave Zanotti, I wouldn't be doing this. It's a dream come true for me to be racing motorcycles and it always has been. I have accomplished a lot in my career and I'm thankful for it. We just need to keep winning races."

Aside from riding a brilliant race in Delaware, Coolbeth, Jr. benefited from two pre-race issues faced by heavy hitters Jared Mees and Bryan Smith.

During his sighting lap, Smith suffered a bike malfunction to his No. 42 Crosley Radio Kawasaki and was forced to switch to his backup bike, which resulted in the "Mile Specialist" having to start from the penalty row. Mees, the defending GNC1 champion and current series points leader, found himself starting next to Smith after jumping the start and being sent back to the penalty row as well.

This was now Sammy Halbert's race to lose. The Briggs Auto pilot, who came into the weekend third in the points, started from the front row and battled hard with the lead pack aboard his No. 69 Harley-Davidson in the early laps of the race. By Lap 13, Halbert had climbed from seventh to fourth and was poised to take over a podium spot from the No. 5 Factory Harley-Davidson of Jake Johnson. In a rare miscue, Halbert went down in between Turns 3 and 4, bringing out a red flag and breaking a handlebar that ended his night.

On the restart, Coolbeth, Jr. resumed his dominant march by continually building his lead from 0.378 of a second on Lap 13 to 1.661 seconds at the end of the race. Mees maintained a respectable eighth-place finish, while Smith was never able to find his groove, finishing an eventual 14th.

Mees now sits seven points ahead of Smith in the standings, 188-181, while Coolbeth, Jr. finds himself in third place just 20 points off the lead.

Carver's impressive runner-up finish aboard the No. 23 Don's Kawasaki machine was his career-best finish aboard a twin-cylinder machine in AMA Pro Flat Track competition. The Alton, Ill., rider now sits 10th in the Harley-Davidson GNC1 presented by Vance & Hines point standings. Jake Johnson was able to maintain his third-place position throughout the main event aboard the No. 5 Factory Harley-Davidson.

Young guns Dominic Colindres, riding the No. 66Y Babe Demay Yamaha, and Jarod Vanderkooi, teammate to Carver, Jr. and pilot of the No. 17F Don's Kawasaki machine, rounded out the top five, respectively.

GNC2

Davis Fisher earned the Roar on the Shore GNC2 main event victory on Saturday night and clinched the GNC2 championship with the win. Fisher's dominance in 2015 has been a record-setting year and the entire flat track world is eager to see what he can do when he graduates to the premier Harley-Davidson GNC1 presented by Vance & Hines class, which many expect will happen next season.

"I don't know what to think right now, I am just so excited," said Fisher. "This was a great rebound season after losing out to Kyle Johnson by one point in the GNC2 championship chase last season. To be on top with two rounds to go still feels quite amazing. I have to thank all of my sponsors for giving me this opportunity and also all of the fans for coming out."

Although two rounds remain in 2015, Fisher sits a whopping 60 points ahead of second-place rider Bronson Bauman and his nine podium appearances and four victories are the reasons why.

Bauman, riding the No. 30Z Lombardi's Harley-Davidson machine, finished second on Saturday night and he has now recorded four podium appearances in the last six rounds. Closing out the podium in Delaware was No. 54A Bill Werner Racing Kawasaki pilot Dan Bromley. Ryan Wells, riding the M&J Racing Kawasaki and Tristan Avery, pilot of the Rod Ayers Motorsports Kawasaki, rounded out the top five, respectively, on Saturday night.

Kyle Johnson Wins the 2014 AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles Championship, 1st-Year Rider Fisher Runner-Up

The sixth season in the AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles Championship saw the intense battle between the title challengers come down to the wire at the season finale at the Pomona Half-Mile Flat Track Finals, with Kyle Johnson taking the 2014 championship by a single point over series runner-up and rookie newcomer Davis Fisher (191-190 points), with Fisher taking the win and Johnson following him home in 2nd-place to capture the title.

While Johnson won four rounds of the thirteen races completed on his #77J Parkinson Brothers Racing Honda in the 2014 AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles Championship to lead the charge, he and 3rd-place championship challenger Ryan Wells were two of the four riders in this year's challenge to compete and score points in all 13 National events (the other two being 5th-place finisher Bronson Bauman and 6th-place finisher Dan Bromley.)

Series runner-up Fisher missed the Peoria and Colonial Downs rounds due to injuries suffered on the last lap of the National main at the Indy Mile on August 8, but came roaring back on the #67M TJ Burnett Farms Racing Honda to win the last two races of the year to cement his stronghold in the championship chase and show that team owner TJ Burnett has a great eye for talent in tutoring and sponsoring the 16 year-old Oregon prodigy. Fisher will surely have the heads-up advantage heading into the 2015 season.

In the shot above, the AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles Championship heat race #1 gets off to a roaring start in round 10 of the 2014 season at the Indy Mile on August 8.

(L-R) Davis Fisher on the #67M TJ Burnett Farms/Bob Lanphere's Beverton Motorcycles/Dan Wall Racing-sponsored Honda CRF450F gets some air alongside Kyle Johnson on the #77J Parkinson Brothers Racing/Hot Rod Harley-Davidson/Motorcycle-Superstore.com-backed Honda. Nick Armstrong on the #44E Southland Racing/G&G Racing/TDFJ.com-sponsored Honda (mostly hidden), Bronson Bauman on the #30Z Rod Lake Racing/RGR/Hart Racing-backed Honda (partially hidden) and Ryan Wells on the #94B KTM/GE Capital/Waters Autobody Racing-sponsored KTM 450 SX-F do their best to roll their throttles on to get a good start.

What most will remember about the 2014 AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles Championship season will be Kyle Johnson capturing the championship with his series leading four wins, but for those that saw it happen before them will remember aside from Johnson's championship run is the emerging talent that came to the forefront of the class in series runner-up Fisher and another first-year future contender in Jarod Vanderkooi. That young and promising Ohio resident finished the season in the 4th-place spot in the championship behind Wells (171-150 points) and proved he has something to bring to the table in winning both of the non-points paying events in the AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Twins Series at the Springfield Mile in May and August on a family-funded and built Kawasaki twin that was the class of the Pro Twins ranks.

So no matter which way you spin it, see it, take it in or let it out, the future of AMA Pro Flat Track is very bright and very strong, as evidenced by this season's chase in the junior feeder series of The Rolling Thunder Show. And THAT is a good thing!

Kyle Johnson earns AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles Championship, finishes second at Pomona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 15, 2014) - For the second consecutive season, the AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles championship chase came down to a single point. Kyle Johnson, from Twin Lake, Mich., capped off a remarkable season last weekend at Pomona with a second place finish aboard his Parkinson Brothers Racing Honda and earned the coveted No. 1 plate in just his second season at the professional level.

Surprisingly enough, Johnson's championship run consisted of only seven top-five finishes out of the 13 total races this year, and his somewhat erratic riding style made for an exciting show every time he took to the track. Fans never knew if he was going to torch the field, or fall victim to a mishap.

Johnson began turning heads and raising eyebrows after the season opening doubleheader at Daytona, when he ripped off three straight victories at Knoxville, Lima and Hagerstown. Those were all extraordinary victories, but looking back, arguably his biggest win of the season came by the smallest margin, when he edged rival Davis Fisher by .025 seconds to claim the Sacramento Mile checkered flag in July, as one point separated Fisher and Johnson in the final Pro Singles point standings.

Although he fell one point shy of the title, Fisher was the clear-cut victor last weekend in Pomona aboard his T.J. Burnett Farms Honda, as he dominated the day and secured his second win of 2014 by 1.376 seconds over Johnson to cap off a remarkable rookie season.

"Coming into the race, I knew I had to get first place and Kyle needed to get third or worse for me to win the championship," said Fisher. "It didn't work out that way but hat's off to Kyle for a great season."

At just 16 years old, Fisher has established himself as one of the top up-and-coming stars of the sport. If it weren't for his crash during the Indy Mile in August, which caused him to finish 16th in the race and miss the following two events, Fisher very well could have been the one who wrapped up the championship in Pomona over Johnson. The Warren, Ore. product will be a very dangerous competitor next year after having a full season of experience under his belt.

If any other rider knows the bittersweet feeling of coming up short in a championship battle, it's Albion, N.Y.'s Ryan Wells. Like Fisher, Wells also missed out on the Pro Singles championship by a single point. Just last year, Wyatt Maguire clipped him in the standings 137-136 at the conclusion of the 2013 season. Wells put together another strong season this year aboard his GE Capital KTM, as he finished fourth at Pomona and third in the final Pro Singles point standings.

Finishing fourth in the standings and third at Pomona was Jarod Vanderkooi. In just his first season in the professional ranks, Vanderkooi excelled not only at the Pro Singles level where he earned two wins, but also in Pro Twins competition. Vanderkooi blew the competition away aboard his Johnny's Vintage Motorcycle Kawasaki EX650 in both Springfield Miles. Look for this 16-year-old Mt. Gilead, Ohio, product to be a household name in the flat track community for years to come.

Bronson Bauman put together his best season yet, as he finished fifth in the Pro Singles point standings despite finishing dead last at Pomona. Mounted on his Rod Lake Racing Honda, Bauman participated in all 13 main events. His best finish came at Peoria, where he earned second.

Another rider to see action in every main event this year was Dan Bromley. Mounted on his Bromley Brothers KTM, he finished sixth in the standings and ninth at Pomona.

Brandon Wilhelm got out to an incredibly fast start to the 2014 season, earning a third place finish and win at Daytona aboard his Wilhelm Racing Honda. However, Wilhem's lack of main events competed in proved costly to his position in the standings, as he finished seventh.

The 2014 AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles season proved yet again to be a platform for the future stars of the sport to put their talents on display in front of a national audience. Riders like Johnson, Vanderkooi and Fisher all have incredibly unique skill sets, and it's only a matter of time before they will be battling against one another in Grand National Championship competition.

Kyle Johnson #77J leads the field but Davis Fisher #67M took the win at the Pomona Half-Mile Flat Track Finals on October 11, while Johnson took the Pro Singles Championship for the 2014 season with a 2nd-place finish to win the crown by 1-point. AMA Pro Flat Track photo by Brian J. Nelson.

AMA Pro Flat Track Daytona Short Track I Sees Briar Bauman Take 1st Grand National Win, Ryan Wells Earns Pro Singles Victory

The 2014 AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship season got off to a big start last night in Daytona, and 2012 AMA Pro Flat Track Saddlemen Rookie of the Year Briar Bauman finally broke through the ranks for his first Grand National win in his sophomore year as an Expert ranked rider.

Aboard the #14 Rod Lake Racing Honda, Bauman took advantage of the complete restart after a red flag to jump out to an early lead and romp to the 25-lap National main win over the other 18 riders who made the show. Dash winner Sammy Halbert, in his return to Daytona after missing last season's opening rounds due to injury, did his best to keep Bauman in site and tried his best to reel him in, coming in a close second, with last year's second night breakout winner, Brandon Robinson bringing the USC Racing Kawasaki home in the 3rd-place spot and final spot on the podium.

In the shot above, Briar Bauman is shown in his pit area after the first practice session at round 7 of the 2013 AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship at the Peoria TT on August 11. Bauman's #14 Rod Lake Racing/Specialty Fabrication Honda CRF450R is attended to while he gets ready to take a break from the action. Bauman went on to take a 5th-place finish after leading a couple of laps and battling with Shaun Russell, Brad Baker and eventual winner Henry Wiles.

Cycle News' Larry Lawrence was on hand to document the action and filed this report.

The full set of results from last night's big event at the Daytona Short Track I can be found here, as we get ready for round 2 to hit the track today with first practice scheduled to roll out at 3:30 PM EDT.

A big congrats to Briar and the Rod Lake Racing team for taking the win last night over a stacked field of riders who put on a heckuva great show on the limestone quarter mile track!

In the AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles Championship season opener, third year rider Ryan Wells took the #94B Waters Autobody KTM to the win, leading all 16 laps in the race and taking the win by just over three seconds ahead of Justin Jones and 3rd-place finisher Brandon Wilhelm.

The Waters Autobody KTM team are to be commended for taking their first win together in their second season as a team. Dave Waters and the team work their butts off and to get the win this early in the season is a testament to the time and effort they have put into their team. A big congrats all around and a tip of the helmet from Stu's Shots for a job well done!

In the shot above, Wells is shown on the #94B Waters Autobody Racing/RLJ Racing KTM 450 SX-F while battling with Dan Bromley on the #54A Bromley Brothers/KTM Racing KTM and Justin Jones on the #19B RLJ Racing/Baughner Racing Honda CRF450R during heat race #2 at the Peoria TT round of the 2013 AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles Championship on August 11. Wells came out on top in this battle with Bromley and Jones finishing in that order.

And AMA Pro Flat Track and their new FansChoice.TV package are to be saluted for putting some great coverage out on the web last night. Although a few early glitches and buffering issues in the initial launch were noticed, all in all it was a fine job and the three cameras on hand showing the action did a super job of making it seem like you were right on the fence or hanging in the infield taking shots as it happened. Great job guys and thanks for making this happen!

You can also check out the press release below from AMA Pro Flat Track on the happenings from last night.

With round 2 of the season set to hit the track in just a few minutes, you can get all of the needed links to keep up with today's action in our rundown from yesterday's race preview here. Now, let's get ready to roar again as the boys and girls of The Rolling Thunder Show get ready to bring the greatest racing series on two wheels in the world back into our homes and into our hearts! Go get 'em folks and let's get ready to rumble!

Briar Bauman and Ryan Wells Each Earn Clutch AMA Pro Flat Track Round One Victories at DAYTONA Flat Track

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 13, 2014) - Round one of AMA Pro Flat Track heated up quickly on a chilly night on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at DAYTONA Flat Track. Briar Bauman (Rod Lake Racing/Honda) took it the distance as he started on the pole and finished atop the podium. Bauman's 1.951 second victory over runner-up finisher Sammy Halbert (Vans Yamaha/Yamaha) is the first Grand National win of his career.

"I don't usually tighten up during a race but when I saw those halfway flags I definitely knew I had a chance to win and felt myself tense up a little bit," said Bauman. "I'm just glad I could hold on for the full 25 laps and get some points. That's what it's all about at Daytona is to work on points. To make it all 25 and earn the win just feels awesome."

AMA Pro Flat Track photo by Dave Hoenig.

To begin the race, Kenny Coolbeth, Jr. (Zanotti Racing/Honda) earned the holeshot but caught a bad break when two riders went down in the back of the pack and caused the red flags to fly. After the restart, Coolbeth, Jr, wasn't as lucky as he failed to reclaim the lead for the remainder of the race, eventually crashing and finishing 17th.

Bauman took the holeshot after the restart and did nothing but increase his lead the rest of the way.

Coming in second-place was Sammy Halbert. The Dash for Cash winner had an outstanding night on the track and the Graham, Wash. product looks poised for a tremendous bounce-back year in 2014. Brandon Robinson (USC Kawasaki/Kawasaki) arguably made the best use of his restart card tonight. The Oxford, Penn. native started 11th on the grid before crawling his way to a third-place finish. Mike Rush (Cascioll Rush Racing/Honda) and 2012 Grand National Champion Jared Mees (Montgomeryville Cycle/Honda) closed out the top five.

AMA Pro Singles

In AMA Pro Singles action, Ryan Wells (KTM/KTM) came out hot right from the beginning, earning the holeshot after starting from fourth on the grid. Wells continued to build on his lead with every lap that passed and eventually the Albion, N.Y. product went on to win the race by over three full seconds.

"The first day at Daytona I usually struggle quite a bit so to come out here and get the win is huge for me," said Wells. "I knew I had to have a good start and that I would be forced to make very few mistakes if I wanted to win. I'm just glad I was able to do that and it paid off. Hopefully I'll be back up here tomorrow night; the goal is to get the sweep."

Coming in second-place was Justin Jones (Jones Racing/Honda). While Jones never really threatened Wells' lead, he solidified his runner up finish early on with a 1.203 second gap between him and third-place finisher Brandon Wilhelm (Wilhelm Racing/Honda). Rodney Spencer, Jr. (GP Sports/Honda) and Bronson Bauman (Rod Lake Racing/Honda) closed out the top five.

AMA Pro Flat Track: Weirbach Racing's Dominic Colindres #66Y Talks Daytona Short Track Rounds 1&2 in the Pro Singles Championship

Dominic Colindres on the #66Y Weirbach Racing/General Engineering/Barnett/Spectro-sponsored Honda CRF450R leads Ryan Wells on the #94B RLJ Racing Honda during heat race 2 action at round 12 of the 2012 AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles Championship round at the Springfield Short Track.  Colindres led the former Weirbach Racing rider home to finishes of 2nd- and 3rd-place in the final qualifying heat for the Pro Singles Championship, to earn direct transfers to the Pro Singles National main event on September 15.

Colindres, who signed with the Weirbach team just past the mid-point of the 2012 season, won his first outing for the team at the Peoria TT, round 9 of the 2012 Pro Singles Championship season, and ended the season ranked as the 4th-place rider in the overall standings in the 'feeder' series for AMA Pro Flat Track.

Last week in Daytona, the young California rider had a rough start to his first full season with the Iowa-based team, coming home in the 14th-place spot in round 1 on Thursday,  March 14.  But in round 2 of the 2013 AMA Pro Flat Track presented by J&P Cycles Grand National Championship season the next evening, Colindres fought a good fight and was able to card a 6th-place finish in the AMA Pro J&P Cycles Pro Singles Championship main event, leaving the season-openers sitting in the 9th-place spot in the overall Pro Singles standings.

Check out the press release below from Weirbach Racing's Dominic Colindres to see his spin on the start of the new season!

Dominic Colindres/Weirbach Racing Daytona Race Report

Ottumwa, Iowa -- March 21, 2012

This past week was the AMA Grand National short track doubleheader held in Daytona, Florida.  Last year was my first time at this track and I didn't make the program the 1st day and didn't transfer from the semi the second day.  With the results from last year, I just wanted to make the main and get a few points for the championship run.

Day one during practice I felt very comfortable.  The bike was set up great and we only made a couple gearing changes.  I ended up qualifying sixth overall and was pretty happy with that because it put me on the front row start in the heat.  In the heat race I rode around in fourth the whole race and stayed there.  The track got really rough with huge ruts and I just took it easy and finished with a fourth place.  For the main event I would be lined up on the inside of the second row.  I got a horrible start and ended up getting shuffled back wards.  The track was falling apart with huge ruts coming out of the turns and my bike just wasn't set up for that bad of a track.  I rode around in fourteenth place the whole race and was just happy to finish without crashing.

On day two during practice I felt comfortable again.  We didn't make any changes during all the qualifying sessions and I ended up qualifying ninth overall.  This would give me a front row start for the heat race again.  There was rumors that they were not going to tear up the track again so it would hopefully be smooth all the way around that night.  In the heat race I tried to rail the outside of turn one but that didn't work out.  I got shuffled all the way back to seventh.  I couldn't get the bike to hook up at all up high and ended up getting passed coming out of turn four because I sat there spinning.  My eighth place in the heat meant I had to go to the semi.  In the semi I just barely missed the hole shot and was in second the whole race, battling for first.  The bike was working a little bit better down low so I was looking forward to the main, but had to start on the third row.  In the main I rode around in last place for about four or five laps.  Then I found a fast line and started to get hooked up and made a pass just about every lap.  I made my way all the way up to sixth but ran out of time before I could advance any farther.  I was really happy with that and got some decent points.

Overall for Daytona in 2013 I am happy with the way things went.  I made the main both days and got some valuable points.  After missing five races last year, I already have several more points than this time last year, and I am ninth overall so the championship dream is looking good.  I also feel like I started to figure out Daytona in the second day main which makes me feel more confident for the next time I go there.

I'd really like to thank my sponsors:

AMA Pro Flat Track: Waters Auto Body KTM Team to Field Steve Murray in Twins Series, Adds Ryan Wells for Pro Singles Class

Dave Waters, owner and team manager of the Waters Auto Body 'Project K' KTM AMA Pro Flat Track team, checks out the action on the track as riders Jeremy Higgins #82 and Steve Murray #51 get ready for their first practice session at round 4 of the 2012 AMA Pro Flat Track Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com season at the Springfield Mile I on May 27.

The team has retained Murray to campaign the #51 KTM North America/Waters Auto Body Racing/Bell Helmets/Arlen Ness-sponsored KTM LC8-based Twins Series mount for the upcoming 2013 season in what will be his second year with the team, while Higgins will be stepping aside for the year after riding for the team the last three seasons.

Rider Ryan Wells tries to cool off while the Iowa-based Weirbach Racing team goes about getting the #94B Weirbach Racing/General Engineering/Barnett/Spectro-backed Honda CRF450R ready to go for round 5 of the 2012 AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com Pro Singles Championship season at the Lima Half-Mile on June 30.  In spite of missing out on five rounds in the 2012 season (Daytona Short Track I and the last four rounds of the season), Wells, a former AMA Horizon Award winner, still finished the year ranked as the 7th-place rider in the 'feeder' Pro Singles Championship class.

As was announced this week, Wells will be hooking up for the 2013 AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com Pro Singles Championship season with fellow New York residents, Dave & Rhonda Waters, to campaign the Pro Singles class aboard their Waters Auto Body machines.

You can check out the full press release below as we wish the Waters Auto Body team and riders Steve Murray and Ryan Wells good luck for the upcoming 2013 season as we look forward to seeing them hit the track this year!

WELLS TO “FLY” UNDER WATERS AUTOBODY/PROJECT K RACING BANNER

February 11, 2013 -- Albion, NY

Dave & Rhonda Waters are proud to announce their support of Flyin’ Ryan Wells to the Waters Autobody/Project K Racing Team for the 2013 Pro Singles Series.  Ryan has always shown the drive and determination required that it takes to become a championship rider and it is our pleasure to be able to help this young man and his family strive for the Pro Singles Championship in 2013.

Ryan Wells, the 2012 Daytona short track winner, has shown us that after being injured mid-year when he was not able to achieve the success he had aimed for that he has learned, grown and worked hard to overcome some of the obstacles that stopped him from attaining that goal.  He has been training all winter and we have seen that first hand.

Ryan Wells is shown taking the checkered flag on the #94B Weirbach Racing Honda at round 2 of the 2012 AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com Pro Singles Series season at the Daytona Short Track II.  Wells will be riding for the Waters Auto Body team in the 2013 season.  Photo courtesy of the Waters Auto Body AMA Pro Flat Track team.

“Dave & I have always tried to help the riders in our area excel in the sport.  In keeping with that tradition, Wells is a natural fit and we are excited about the future of the team and all the possibilities.  Our thought is Ryan & Steve will compliment one another with each other’s experiences and bring a friendly yet competitive atmosphere.”

Ryan had this to say regarding the team, “I am very excited to be working with the Waters Autobody/Project K Racing team as I feel we will communicate and work together well as a team.  I also feel having Steve Murray as a teammate will be a great learning step for me on and off the track.”

Piloting the KTM’s for the AMA Expert Twins season will be the sole pilot Steve Murray for a second year.  Jeremy Higgins has decided to curtail his race schedule for the upcoming season and dedicate more time to other aspects of his personal life.

“Dave and I would like to express our gratitude and thanks to Jeremy and the Higgins family for the past three years.  Jeremy & Jack have given so much input over the years that have helped our team to continually make changes to bring the KTM’s closer to the goal of making mains week in and week out.  We can never thank them enough for all the hard work, long hours and lasting memories that were made and we wish them the best for 2013.”

AMA Flat Track: Weirbach Racing's Dominic Collindres Ends 2012 Pro Singles Season with 2nd-Place at Pomona & 4th-Place in the Championship Standings

Round 9 of the 2012 AMA Pro Flat Track Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com season saw the series head to the natural amphitheatre surroundings of the Peoria Motorcycle Club on August 12, and a new rider in the saddle for the '11 AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com Pro Singles Championship-winning Weirbach Racing team and it's potent Honda CRF450Rs.

Californian Dominic Collindres had just signed-on to ride for the team just days before the event that would begin the second-half stretch of the season in the Pro Singles series, and he brought a renewed shot-in-the-a.. to the defending championship-winning Iowa-based effort.

Right out of the box on the #66Y Weirbach Racing/General Engineering/Barnett/Spectro-sponsored Honda their new rider showed that he was in control and that the team's decision to sign him for the remaining events for the year was a wise one.

Collindres, in charge at the front right from the start, took his first-ever win over a stacked field of riders vying for the Pro Singles Championship, including eventual series champ Stephen Vanderkuur (3rd-place finish) and part-time Pro Singles contender Justin Reed (2nd-place finish) and wowwed the paying crowd at the longest tenured event on the AMA Pro Flat Track calendar.

In the shot above, Collindres walks away from the rest of the field after a red flag delay at the Pro Singles round in Peoria on August 12 as he comes out of turn one.

Team co-owner Ted Weirbach stands with Weirbach Racing's former signee, Ryan Wells, just before the start of heat race action at round 3 of the 2012 AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com Pro Singles Championship season at the Springfield TT on May 26.  Wells, on the #94B Weirbach Racing/General Engineering/Barnett/Spectro-backed Honda CRF450R (the weapon of choice and dominance in the Pro Singles series and for the Weirbach team), parted ways with the team just prior to round 9 at Peoria.

After winning round 2 at Daytona (having missed the cut the previous evening in the season kick-off doubleheader round), Wells only scored one more podium finish for the Iowa-based Weirbach team (3rd-place Hagerstown) and three more top-10s.

Unfortunately, the former Horizon Award winner was injured in a heat race crash at round 12 of the season at the Springfield Short Track and wasn't able to continue the remaining events of the season.  He still finished 7th in the 2012 AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com Pro Singles Championship based on his early-season results while still on the immaculately-prepped Weirbach Hondas, and is expected to return healthy again for the 2013 season.

Poised to return together again for the full 2013 AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com Pro Singles Championship season, Collindres and the Weirbach Racing team are assuredly a safe-bet to contest for the big brass ring next year in the hotly-contested class that showcases some of the best racing on wheels in the world that is AMA Pro Flat Track racing.  It's gonna be a long winter......

Check out the official press release below courtesy of Dominic Collindres and the Weirbach Racing team, and a big congrats to them for a stellar finish to the season.  Bravo!

Ottumwa, Iowa, November 3, 2012

The AMA Grand National season-finale was held in Pomona, California.  I was stoked for this race being that it was close to home and I got to hang out with friends and family at my house all week.

Last year I didn't do so good, not even making the main, but this year I felt that I had some good experience gathered up from this year.  My goal for the weekend was to finish ahead of Shayna Texter and finish the year off fourth in overall points.

Qualifying was going great.  Dick had the bike set up spot on from the start, and the only thing we changed was tire pressures.  The free practice qualifying I set the ninth-fastest time.  We didn't change the bike at all and in the first qualifying session I qualified ninth again.  We then dropped the tire pressure a little and set the fifth fastest time in the second qualifying session.

For the heat race I was lined up on the front row.  I got a great start and was in second into the first turn.  I made a pass for the lead going down the back straight and led the rest of the heat race.  I felt great in the heat, winning by about a second.  Vanderkuur looked fast in his heat and I knew he was going to be tough to beat.

Going out for the main I felt comfortable with the way things were going.  I got the holeshot and going into turn three a red flag came out.  On the second start I was in about fourth riding by myself and another red flag came out about halfway through the race.

This time the start was single file and I made my way into third going into turn three.  The top two riders pulled a large lead on me and we were all evenly spaced.  At about four laps to go I found a fast line and reeled in Maquire who was in second.  I passed him and was left with two laps to go.  I caught up to Vanderkuur on the last lap and couldn't quite get into the draft going down the last straight away and I finished a solid second.

With a stellar 2nd-place finish in round 16 of the 2012 AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com Pro Singles Championship, Weirbach Racing's Dominic Collindres #66Y capped off the season in the 4th-place spot in the championship standings.  Photo courtesy of the Weirbach Racing team.

This year Pomona treated me great.  Being on a totally different bike and having so much more experience really seemed to help me out.  I am very happy with the way this year went.  I couldn't be happier to get team Weirbach a win my first race after their previous rider decided to go on his own mid-season.

Getting all of my podiums on Weirbach's bikes gets me ready for next year.  Being that I missed five races and joined Dick and Ted halfway through the season and finished fourth in points, Dick, Ted and I feel like we have a good shot at winning the championship next year since I will be at every race.

I couldn't have done it without them and all our sponsors that helped this year. I would like to give a huge thanks to:
