Famed British Motorcycle Racer Guy Martin Will Shoot For Bike Speed Record At The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb On June 29

Colorado Springs, May 5, 2014--------One of Great Britain's most accomplished motorcycle speed stars has entered The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, and his goal as a rookie is simple - set a new motorcycle speed record on America's Mountain on Sunday, June 29.

He's set a very lofty goal for himself, indeed. Only two bikes have ever broken the ten-minute mark on the Peak, and they came back-to-back in 2012.

The Peak motorcycle record was set in 2012 by Carlin Dunne in the 1205 Pro Division with a clocking of 9:52.819 on a Ducati. Greg Tracy, also on a Ducati, became the second racer to break the ten-minute mark with a blistering 9:58.262 moments later.
Dunne had the fastest motorcycle clocking last year with a 10:00.694 in the Exhbition Powersports field.

Guy Martin will be entered in the Pikes Peak Challenge - UTV/Exhibition Division, racing on a 2014 Martek Custom bike that he's building for himself.

The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is the second oldest motorsports race in America behind the Indianapolis 500 and a long-standing tradition in Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region. It began in 1916, and this year marks the 92nd running of the world's most famous and demanding hill climb.

The race is run on a 12.42 mile course with 156 turns that begins at 9,390 feet and finishes at the 14,115 foot summit of America's Mountain. As the drivers climb toward the summit, the thin air slows reflexes and saps muscle strength. The thin air also robs engines of 30% of their power at the summit. Competitors, vehicles and motorcycles must be in top shape simply to finish, let alone win!

Martin is a famous British motorcycle racer, television presenter, truck mechanic and hands-on engineer. The 32-year-old racer has his own television show, "Speed With Guy Martin," and has a new book out titled "Guy Martin- My Autobiography."

He is probably best known for his successful motorcycle road racing career, most notably for grabbing the headlines in the Isle of Man TT races, a 38-mile road race, but more recently his career has taken off in a different direction when he began to appear on TV, presenting the popular series "The Boat that Guy Built" on BBC 1 which was followed by the 2012 Channel 4 series 'How Britain Worked' and, most recently (2013) the Channel 4 series Speed.

Guy undertook a series of speed-based challenges, exploring the boundaries of physics and learning about the science of speed. During the series Guy broke the British record for outright speed on a bicycle, hitting an amazing 122.4 mph and smashed the world gravity-powered sledge speed record.

Known to have been called "The fastest man never to win the TT", Martin's motorcycle racing career began when he moved to Ireland and in his debut year won the 'Cock o' the North' and International Gold Cup races at Scarborough as well as the Irish 750cc Support Championship.  He came 7th in his first Senior TT race, setting the fastest lap by a newcomer. In 2005 he was the only rider to finish all five of his TT races inside the top six.

He has raced for several teams including AIM Yamaha (2006) Hydrex Honda (2007-9) and Wilson Craig Honda (2010) when he went to the Isle of Man looking to achieve his first TT victory. But in the final race, the Senior TT, Guy he had a bad crash on the third lap, having led the race just before the first pit stop. He was airlifted to hospital with chest injuries, suffering bruising to both lungs and minor fractures to his upper spine. He made an amazing recovery thanks on part to his amiable and irrepressible personality and his determination to get back to the sport he loves.

Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Seeing Surge in Entries for 92nd Running in 2014

Entries For The 92nd Running Of The Pikes Peak nternational Hill Climb Coming In At High Speed
Colorado Springs, December 12, 2013--Though the famed Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is still months away, drivers and motorcycle racers are registering at a fast pace.
The 92nd edition of the Race to the Clouds on Pikes Peak, America’s Mountain, will take place on Sunday, June 29 and already, 31 automobiles and 15 motorcycles and their competitors have registered to take part. All registrations, as always are subject to approval by the PPIHC Race Committee.
The high profile Unlimited Division has six registrations submitted, including Mark Rennison of Great Britain, who was fourth last year in the division that became legend when French driver Sebastien Loeb drove his 2013 Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak edition to the all-time record of a stunning 8:13.878.

Rennison piloted his 1986 Ford RS 200 Evolution to a respectable clocking of 9:46.634 in taking fourth behind the jaw-dropping time set by Loeb. This will be the third appearance by Rennison, the British two-time Rally Cross Champion, at Pikes Peak.
Also returning in the popular Unlimited Division are Spencer Steele of Denver, who was fifth last year with a time of 9:57.513, Steve Goeglein of Falcon, Colorado, eighth place with a time of 10:36.570 and veteran driver Kris Antal of Hungary.
Steele has three Pikes Peak titles to his credit, winning the Open Wheel Division in 2010, 2011 and 2013 before moving up last summer to the Unlimited field. He will drive a 2013 PVS Special this time around as he challenges the big cars.
Another Pikes Peak veteran favorite coming back is Jeff Zwart of Corona del Mar, California, who finished third last year in the loaded Time Attack Division with a time of 10:13.856 behind winner Paul Dallenbach (9:46.001) and second-place driver David Donner (9:53.581).
Zwart won the Time Attack 2WD division title in 2010 in a 2007 Porsche and won championships in the former High Performance Showroom Stock division in 1994, 1995, 1998 and 2002, each time in a Porsche. He will be racing in the Time Attack 2 class this summer in a 2013 Porsche 911.
The 2014 Open Wheel Division, won last year by Clint Vahsholtz, so far includes last year’s third place-place finisher Rodney O’Maley of Colorado Springs and fourth-place entry Andy Figueroa of Pueblo, Colorado. It will be Figueroa’s eighth appearance on the mountain after his rookie year in 2005.
In the Motorcycle Divisions, two-time Sidecar champion John Wood of Victorville, California, has signed up to compete once again. He won the division in 2011 and 2012 and was sixth last year. Wood will race a 1996 Windle F2 this time. He held the class record of 11:41.406 until it was snapped by 2013 winner Wade Boyd, who clocked 11:26.987 to claim the Sidecar crown.
The popular PPIHC Fan Fest, which annually draws more than 30,000 race fans, will take place on Friday, June 27 this year.
The 2014 Divisions and Classes

Electric Car Division – The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb recognizes the future of electricity in the automotive industry.  It is through this effort that constructors of electric vehicles may showcase their engineering excellence of these truly unique vehicles. There are 2 classes within the Electric Division.

Electric Modified Class – This class features the cutting edge of electric technology as it applies to racing.

Electric Production Class – This class will feature Production Electric vehicles that are readily available to the public. Very few modifications are allowed.

Pikes Peak Challenge Car Division – A new division for 2014, the Pikes Peak Challenge Division will encompass several different class options.

Exhibition Class – In keeping with the mission statement of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, specifically to “demonstrate advancements in the practical application of motor sports technology,” the race encourages vehicles that don’t fit into one of its regular divisions to enter in the Exhibition Division.

Open Wheel Class – The traditional race car on Pikes Peak. Their appearance ranges from an Indy car style to a dune buggies. Open wheel cars have competed in every Pikes Peak International Hill Climb since the first race in 1916. This is a very fast division.

Pikes Peak Open Class – These cars may look like stock cars from the outside, but major modifications can be done to their engines, transmissions and suspension.

Pikes Peak Vintage Car/Truck Class – These vintage race cars make us remember back to the glory days of Pikes Peak with cars like; Mustang, Cobra, Mercury and Lincoln too. Eligible cars are those manufactured in 1990 or earlier.

Time Attack Division – A division for production based two and four wheel drive vehicles, this division features the Time Attack 1 Class and Time Attack 2 Class.  Eligibility is restricted to close-bodied four-wheel vehicles.

Time Attack 1 Class – This class will feature production based race vehicles with more modification and specialization than is seen in the Time Attack 2 Class.

Time Attack 2 Class – This class will feature production based race vehicles with minor modifications allowed.
Unlimited Division – Anything goes in the Unlimited Division as long as it passes safety inspection. The Unlimited Division features the most exotic vehicles, most of them built specifically for this race. These race cars have the best chance of setting a new overall race record.  In 2011 Nobuhiro Tajima finally broke the elusive ten minute barrier setting an overall course record with a time of 09:51.278.  today the record is held by Sebastien Loeb with a time of 8:13.878.

Pikes Peak Lightweight Motorcycle Division – A popular class with many riders. Two-stroke and four-stroke engines are eligible. Many older design machines of this size are successful in this race, but bikes off the showroom floor can also be competitive. Single and twin-cylinder engines are allowed.

Pikes Peak Middleweight Motorcycle Division – New for 2014, this division will feature a wide range of motorcycles. Competitors are eligible to enter bikes with 1-4 cylinders and a displacement of up to 849cc.

Pikes Peak Open Motorcycle Division – This is the top motorcycle division offered at Pikes Peak. This division will feature some of the fastest bikes available today.

Pikes Peak Electric Motorcycle Division – The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb recognizes the future of electricity in the automotive industry.  It is through this effort that constructors of electric vehicles may showcase their engineering excellence of these truly unique vehicles. There are 2 classes within the Pikes Peak Electric Motorcycle Division.

Electric Modified Class – This class features the cutting edge of electric technology as it applies to racing.

Electric Production Class – This class will feature Production Electric vehicles that are readily available to the public. Very few modifications are allowed.

Pikes Peak Challenge Motorcycle Division – A new division for 2014, the Pikes Peak Challenge Motorcycle Division will encompass several different class options.

Pikes Peak 250 Class – Don’t let the size fool you. There are motorcycles with bigger engines on Pikes Peak, but the Pikes Peak 250 class is fast and competitive. These machines are usually factory built for racing with two-stroke and four-stroke single or twin cylinder engines

Quad Class – Essentially four-wheeled motorcycles, these machines are limited only by tread width and the use of an ATV engine of 500cc or less. Stability is aided by extreme weight-shifting by the rider. Cornering velocity is very high while the relative smallness of the engines hold down outright speed.

Sidercar Class – Three wheels, two riders (“driver” and “passenger”), and one winning mission. The passenger (or aptly named “the monkey”) lets it all hang out in the turns, making for some interesting action. Sidecars are always a crowd favorite.

UTV/Exhibition Powersport – This division includes Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTVs) and other vehicles that don’t fit perfectly in other Pikes Peak Divisions.

Pikes Peak Vintage Motorcycle – This division includes 650cc-750cc 4-stroke twin cylinder bikes that would qualify for current AHRMA events.

Micky Dymond Slated to Compete at Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with Falkner Livingston Racing & Akrapovic

Pro Motorcycle Racer Micky Dymond Partners with Falkner Livingston Racing/Akrapovic for the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in the Pikes Peak 1205 Division

Colorado Springs, May 7, 2013 -------The 91st Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will feature a dramatic return to the mountain by former Pikes Peak Champion racer Micky Dymond (Anaheim, CA) on a Ducati Multistrada, riding for the Falkner Livingston Racing Team.

Micky Dymond

The Pikes Peak 1205 division motorcycle racers will face off on June 30 with Dymond riding a Ducati Multistrada, the motorcycle of choice for winning riders in 2010, 2011 and 2012. The project will be managed by Falkner Livingston Racing which is partnered with Akrapovic America LLC for this project.

In 2005, three-time AMA champion Dymond took on the famed Pikes Peak International Hill Climb for the first time with remarkable results – the rookie rider won the 750 Pro motorcycle class, becoming only the second rider to become ‘King of the Hill’ as a rookie. When he competes this year, Dymond will have the advantage of past experience as a three-time Pikes Peak competitor as well as the benefit of a fully paved course.

“I feel that a fully paved course will suit me very well on the Ducati Multistrada 1200,” says Dymond.

“The bike is whole lot of motorcycle for sure but, it’s amazing how fast it is and how well it handles. I really love this event and feel so lucky to be a part of this team, on this great bike. It is just So Awesome.”

Ducati’s Carlin Dunne established the all-time course record for motorcycles last year in winning the 1205 field in a sizzling 9:52.819, the first racer to break the ten-minute barrier in the history of the race on Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain.

Dymond will be on hand in the Akrapovic booth to chat with race fans during “Fan Fest” in downtown Colorado Springs, scheduled for Friday evening, June 28th.

Pikes Peak International Hill Climb to Feature Electric Motorcycle Showdown

Electric Motorcycle Class Showdown All Set With Chip Yates and Greg Tracy At The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

Visit us at: www.ppihc.com

Colorado Springs, April 16, 2013-----An epic head-to-head showdown is all set in the electric motorcycle class in the Exhibition Powersport division in the 91st Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on Jun 30.

The electric motorcycle duel on America’s Mountain will pit the event’s racer with the fastest time on an electric bike, Chip Yates, against six-time Pikes Peak motorcycle champion Greg Tracy. They are the only entries in this class and the matchup promises to be a highlight of the day.

The two professional motorcycle racers will face off on the Peak with Yates selecting an American-made Lightning Electric Superbike, and Tracy on his new concept model Amarok P1A Super Bike.

During the 2012 Race to the Clouds, Tracy and his Ducati teammate, Carlin Dunne, were the first motorcyclists in history of the race to reach the finish line under ten minutes with their fuel-powered Multistradas. Dunne clocked 9:52.819 and Tracy was right behind at 9:58.262 in the 1205 cc class.

Tracy (Long Beach, CA) has won six titles in several divisions since 1996 on Pikes Peak, including victories in the 1205CC division in 2009 and 2010.

Yates (Aliso Viejo, CA) is an electric vehicle pioneer known for risky record-setting adventures in extreme electric vehicles of his own design. This year’s Pikes Peak race marks the first time Yates has put his trust in an electric manufacturer to build and supply his race machine. Lightning also supplies the lithium-ion batteries that power his world record breaking electric airplane.

Yates first took on Pikes Peak as a rookie in 2011. On the paved section of the course, his rookie split times landed him 9th overall among 112 motorcycles before the ensuing 2.6 miles of bumpy dirt roads in the middle of the course slowed his final result to a 12:50.094. With the course being completely paved this year, Yates’ aggressive knee-dragging style learned from his FIM World Supersport and AMA Pro Daytona SportBike racing background makes him a solid contender for a new speed mark in the class.

“The Lightning Electric Superbike is the only electric motorcycle to ever show a higher top speed than my electric bike, which is enjoying retirement at the Petersen Automotive Museum right now,” said Yates. When I heard Greg Tracy was coming to the mountain on an electric bike this year, I realized my Pikes Peak best time was at risk and so I turned to Lightning Motorcycles to help me raise the bar and hang on to the title.”

“The amazing thing about the Lightning bike, is that it‘s a full-on 180-horsepower electric superbike, faster than a Suzuki GSX-R1000, that anyone can buy – it’s actually in production up in Northern California” added Yates.

Amarok and Tracy will be racing the P1A, an advanced electric motorcycle concept demonstrator developed over the past three years.  The P1A boasts a hand crafted aluminum monocoque design that dramatically reduces weight and improves handling.  “The 147kg (325lb) Amarok P1 concept is about making the best handling motorcycle on the planet.  There are electric bikes with much more power, but we want to own the corners.  The 156 turns of Pikes Peak represent to us the best opportunity to prove our core belief that in vehicle design, you can do more with less.” says co-founder Michael Uhlarik.

The legendary race is the second oldest motor sports race in the United States behind the Indy 500. With 156 turns over 12.42 miles, sheer drop-offs and an elevation that increases by more than 5,000 feet from the start line to the 14,110-foot summit on a fully-paved public highway, Pikes Peak is the perfect proving ground for the Lightning Electric Superbike, which uses an innovative electric power train to defy the thin, power-sapping Colorado mountain air.
