Zanotti Racing announced a new partnership/sponsor for their AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship team with National #5 Jake Johnson last week just before the Springfield Mile I on May 29.

AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship Heads to the Springfield Mile I Memorial Day Weekend on Sunday, May 29 for Round 6 of the Season

One of the premier events of the season will roll off the line in just shy of 24 hours as the stars of the AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship Harley-Davidson GNC1 presented by Vance & Hines series heads to the grand daddy of them all at the Springfield Mile I tomorrow in round 6 of the 2016 season.

Unlike the last few years, the event that is the looked forward to most by nearly all fans and riders sits just shy of the half-way point of the season instead of three or four races into the schedule. With the series having completed not only both Daytona rounds, the series schedule has also hit the half-mile in Austin, TX. and both mile events in consecutive weekends prior to this at Phoenix, AZ. and Sacramento, CA.

This season has already been sizing itself up to be another barn burner with former 2-Time AMA Grand National Champion Jake Johnson having won one of the Daytona Short Track races (with Sammy Halbert claiming the other win), defending AMA Grand National Champion Jared Mees taking the win at the COTA/Austin half-mile, and mile specialist and Howerton Racing's rocket Kawasaki pilot Bryan Smith taking the wins at both the Phoenix and last weekend's Sacto Mile events.

Besides the great racing to look forward to tomorrow, Midwest fans will also get to catch a glimpse of the new Harley-Davidson XG750R being piloted by last year's AMA Pro GNC2 Champion Davis Fisher. Although the bike has struggled in it's first couple of outings, Fisher was finally able to put it into the National main last weekend in Sacramento and came away with a 16th-place finish. The Harley-Davidson folks are trumpeting this weekend's event as the bike's debut (see the press release below from the Motor Company) even though it has already appeared at the previous three rounds of the season.

Smith heads up the point standings over Sammy Halbert, Jake Johnson and Jared Mees (with just 17 points separating the top-4 riders after just five rounds) and is heading to familiar territory tomorrow in Springfield in a race that he won both times last season and has all but dominated since joining the Howerton Motorsports Kawasaki team in early 2012. There is no reason not to think that tomorrow won't be any different, although riders like Kenny Coolbeth, Jr. and Brandon Robinson have been able to sneak in wins amidst Flyin' Bryan's dominance on the Illinois State Fairgrounds mile oval. And as we all know, that is why we have races, in order to determine who can and will win them!

AMA Pro Flat Track Heads to the "World's Fastest Mile" this Sunday for the Springfield Mile I

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (May 25, 2016) - This Memorial Day weekend will be all about speed as the stars of AMA Pro Flat Track roll into the Illinois State Fairgrounds for the Springfield Mile I on May 29, and the man in every rider's sights will be Michigan native Bryan Smith. The pilot of the No. 42 Crosley/Howerton Kawasaki Ninja 650 heads to the "World's Fastest Mile" having won the last two Harley-Davidson GNC1 presented by Vance & Hines races - both Miles. Smith also swept both Springfield Mile events in 2015, giving him a rare six all-time victories at the venue that's considered by many to be the crown jewel of the AMA Pro Flat Track schedule. On his last Mile outing this past Saturday, Smith finished just 0.024 of a second in front of Kenny Coolbeth, Jr., to claim his sixth consecutive Sacramento Mile victory after a grueling on-track battle with the former Grand National Champion. Coolbeth, mounted on the No. 2 Zanotti Racing Harley-Davidson XR750, has also had success in Springfield, with a win to his credit from the 2014 season. He'll enter this weekend's race sixth in the standings, 35 points behind Smith and perhaps his biggest threat of all. The Springfield Mile is the third of four consecutive Mile races on the 2016 AMA Pro Flat Track schedule, and for a Mile-expert like Smith, it presents the perfect opportunity for him to pad his points lead. Smith, last year's runner up in the point standings, heads to Springfield leading the 2016 championship chase by two markers over Sammy Halbert and his No. 69 BriggsAuto.com Harley-Davidson XR750. Jake Johnson, mounted on the No. 5 Zanotti Racing Harley-Davidson XR750, comes to Springfield third in points, nine behind Smith, and four in front of two-time defending Grand National Champion, Jared Mees. After splitting wins at the DAYTONA Flat Track to open the season, Halbert and Johnson are both yet to finish worse than eighth this year. Mees, however, is coming off a disappointing showing at the Sacramento Mile on Saturday due to mechanical issues with his No. 1 Las Vegas Harley-Davidson XR750. The Michigan native has a lone Springfield Mile victory to his credit, which came in 2011. No. 6 Factory Harley-Davidson rider Brad Baker will also look to bounce back from a Sacramento Mile that ended prematurely due to mechanical woes. The 2013 Grand National Champion finished on the podium at Springfield in last year's spring edition and comes into the event seventh in the points. Brandon Robinson, riding the No. 44 Kennedy Racing Kawasaki Ninja 650, enters Round 6 of the AMA Pro Flat Track season fifth in the standings and is looking to bounce back from a 16th place result in Sacramento. The Pennsylvania rider swept both Springfield Mile events in 2013, so he'll be looking to recapture that magic when he rolls into Illinois this weekend. Stevie Bonsey and Cory Texter will also look to be in the mix on Sunday. The riders of the No. 80 Harley-Davidson XR750 and No. 65 Kawasaki Ninja 650, respectively, both own podium finishes on Miles this season. Texter was third in Round 4 at the Arizona Mile and Bonsey came home in third at Sacramento. Bonsey is eighth in points, tied with Henry Wiles, and Texter enters Springfield 10th in points. GNC2 Dalton Gauthier leads the GNC2 class coming into the Springfield Mile. The rider of the No. 14A Wood Racing BMW FS 800 owns two wins so far in 2016 -- including BMW's breakout win in the professional flat track ranks -- but the Pennsylvania native settled for 15th last weekend at the Sacramento Mile. Gauthier leads Sacramento runner-up Ryan Wells by four points and Kolby Carlile sits third in the title hunt, 21 points in back of the leader. Tristan Avery has the hot hand coming into Springfield following his solid victory in Sacramento. The pilot of the No. 16S Ron Ayers Motorsports Kawasaki Ninja 650 won by more than two seconds over Wells, and has shown he's a force to be reckoned with on Miles, having won the Du Quoin Mile in 2015 as a rookie. AMA Pro Flat Track Sacramento Mile Round Set for May 21; Can Bryan Smith Make it Six In-a-Row?

Bryan Smith has owned the Sacramento Mile round of the AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship Harley-Davidson GNC1 presented by Vance & Hines series since his string of wins started during the 2011 season aboard his and his father Barry's Moroney's H-D XR750.

Since that time and with the help of his Howerton Motorsports Kawasaki and main team members Ricky Howerton, Jeff Gordon and Dink Glidden he has all but owned the Cal-Expo event in California and looks to add to his legend on the left coast in just four short weeks as the series heads to round 5 of the 2016 season on Saturday, May 21 just one week after the next round on the calendar and the series newest venue at the Law Tigers Arizona Mile.

Winning five series races in-a-row is a testament to itself for Flyin' Bryan and the team, but to be able to put together a sixth win at the Sacto Mile would be quite a feat!

Lloyd Brothers Motorsports & Johnny Lewis Teaming Back Up Again for Select Races in 2016 AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship GNC1 Season

The Lloyd Brothers Motorsports team, who set the bar for diversity on the track and for looking sharp in the pits in the AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship, announced this week that they will be reteaming with last year's rider Johnny Lewis for select Twins Series races for the 2016 season.

The team, based out of the Columbus, OH. and Atlanta, GA. areas had a rough year last year with crashes to riders Troy Bayliss and Johnny Lewis. Bayliss, the former 3-Time World Superbike Champion was lost to the team for the season after crashing out in their initial outing at the Springfield Mile I in late May. Lewis, who finished the season in the 16th-place spot in the championship standings, had some great finishes on the year (4th-place/Du Quoin Mile, 5th-place/Indy Mile) before a season-ending crash at the Springfield Mile II put him and the team on the sidelines for the remaining events of the year.

The LBM team, who was the first to put the Italian Aprilia brand into a Grand National Championship race at the Du Quoin Mile in the early-mid '00s and who were the first to win a GNC Mile main event with their Italian Ducati with Joe Kopp at the Prescott Mile I in May '10, has been a stalwart among the competitors for years now and their experience and breadth in the series is all but unequaled. They nearly won their first GNC event with then-rider Henry Wiles on their Aprilia at the Lima Half-Mile in June '08. And they teamed with Brad Baker in his first full season in GNC1 competition to earn 5th-place in the overall championship which earned him Rookie of the Year.

Lewis had a steep learning curve last season on the Ducati, although the former Pennsylvania/now Florida resident is no slouch to learning to wrestle with diversity in riding different machines. This should be a great year for both the team and Lewis as they make their second outing together and try to get the Big Duc back up front where it belongs.

Atlanta, GA. -- March 30, 2016 -- Lloyd Brothers Motorsports, Inc. and Johnny Lewis will contest select rounds of the AMA Pro Racing Flat Track Championship and the second annual Harley-Davidson Flat Track X Games aboard the newest versions of the LBM Flat Tracker with title sponsorship from Dillard Family Racing.

 

“Our focus is to make sure that the team has every possible advantage to compete well at each race that we attend while at the same time gaining valuable experience together to move forward in the future,” stated team co-owner Michael Lloyd. “We had several top-five finishes last year running a partial season with Johnny. Selected Riders from AMA Pro Flat Track Set to Return to ESPN's Summer XGames in Austin, TX June 2-5

In just over two months time, selected riders from AMA Pro Flat Track will again hold stage alongside the stars of extreme sports when they visit the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, TX for their second outing in the ESPN XGames competition.

This will be the second year alongside the popular competition where the stars of The Rolling Thunder Show put on a great show last year in their inaugural showing that saw Jared Mees lead the majority of the main event only to suffer a mechanical breakdown with less then a half lap to go and Bryan Smith go on to earn the first-ever gold medal in the XGames flat track competition in front of a packed house and with just over 500K people watching live in prime time on ESPN's cable network.

This year the track will have more development before the competition starts up as former 7-Time AMA Grand National Champion Chris Carr has done a total redesign of the facility that will see it's initial testing come next weekend on Saturday, April 9 with the Harley-Davidson Lone Star Half-Mile in round 3 of the season.

Harley-Davidson Flat-Track Racing Returns to Summer X Games Austin for Second Year

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Mar. 25, 2016) - AMA Pro Flat Track stars return to the stage for another year at ESPN's Summer X Games in Austin, Texas for the Harley-Davidson Flat-Track Racing event at Circuit of The Americas on June 2 - 5. The X Games will be broadcast live on both ESPN and ABC. "The X Games is an outstanding festival for the world's leading young extreme athletes and we are proud to once again have the AMA Pro Flat Trackers showcase our uniquely American sport," said Michael Lock, CEO of AMA Pro Racing. "The action will be fast and furious and the redesigned track will deliver thrilling racing from start to finish." During last year's Summer X Games, Kawasaki rider No. 42 Bryan Smith secured the inaugural flat track gold medal over top rival and reigning Harley-Davidson GNC1 presented by Vance & Hines champion No. 1 Jared Mees. "It was great to win the gold last year," Smith said. "It was pretty special. I was the first one and pretty lucky to win it. To be back there again will be cool and I'll hopefully defend my gold medal and be the only guy with two flat track golds. "I'm excited to be able to showcase what we have in flat track and how special it is and I hear the track will be better this year," Smith continued. "In order to prepare, my team and I treat it just like any other AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National, which is what our whole careers and lives are based around." After leading the majority of the 20-lap race, Mees suffered a mechanical issue on the final lap which forced him to leave the track and miss the win, allowing Smith to take home the victory. Mees has something to prove when he returns to the X Games in June, and is guaranteed to be a frontrunner in Austin. "X Games for me was a little bitter," Mees said. "Leading from start to almost finish and coming up a half of a lap short with a pretty comfortable lead was a bitter part of the season for me. It would've been cool to collect the very first ever gold medal, but unfortunately the gold medal is sitting on somebody else's shelf. I'm looking forward to going back because I'm motivated to go to every race and win. All in all I'm excited to be returning." Sammy Halbert, rider of the No. 7 Harley-Davidson, finished second at the X Games while Factory Harley-Davidson rider No. 6 Brad Baker closed out the podium with his third-place result. "Summer X Games was such an amazing experience," Baker said. "It felt so awesome to be able to compete for an X Games medal just like the famous athletes I have grown up watching on TV. I'm really looking forward to this year's event. I came up two places short of gold last year, so I'm really going to be pushing for gold this time. Preview the AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship Harley-Davidson Lone Star Half-Mile at COTA with Track Designer & 7-Time Grand National Champ Chris Carr

In just eight short days, round 3 of the 2016 AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship Harley-Davidson GNC1 presented by Vance & Hines series will roll into Austin, TX. alongside the stars of the MotoGP and MotoAmerica road racing series to pull out all of the stops in the first Twins Series event of the young season ahead.

The stars of The Rolling Thunder Show visited the COTA facility last year for it's first-ever start alongside the ESPN XGames event and put on one heckuva show alongside the long running stars of some of the highest profile extreme sports, and on a track that many called 'questionable' at best. But a show they put on and in it's initial live airing on ESPN pulled in just over 500K viewers in a primetime slot on cable tv.

In fairness to all for last year's track crew and facility, the folks that did a wonderful job of putting it together had just a few short days to put together a racing surface that just days before had been underwater due to the inundation of rain storms in the area. But the track prep crew and the riders all moved past the problems at hand and put in some darn fine racing for all to see.

This year will be different. Track-prep specialist and former 7-Time AMA Grand National Champion Chris Carr was tasked with designing an all-new surface for the new and points-paying event taking place next Saturday, April 9, and what a job he has done in getting this new facility ready to show off the talents of the greatest racing series on two wheels in the world alongside the European stars of MotoGP and the American stars of MotoAmerica.

(Mar. 31, 2016) - AMA Pro Flat Track athletes are taking the spotlight on Saturday, April 9 at the inaugural Harley-Davidson Lone Star Half-Mile at Circuit of The Americas during the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas weekend on the new, purpose-built dirt track designed by flat track legend Chris Carr. Fans can get a taste of the origins of motorcycle racing during the high-intensity qualifying rounds and main events with the flat track athletes demonstrating racing in the raw as they conquer the new half-mile terrain. What is AMA Pro Flat Track? AMA Pro Flat Track is the world's premier dirt track motorcycle racing series and one of the longest-running championships in the history of motorsports. The sport is also regarded as the birthplace of the "Golden Generation" of USA Grand Prix stars, producing top riders such as Grand National and World Champion Kenny Roberts, Wayne Rainey and Nicky Hayden. AMA Pro Flat Track comprises two classes. The first is the Harley-Davidson GNC1 presented by Vance & Hines class, which features the world's elite flat track riders.
