AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series Set to Return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway During the 7th Annual Red Bull Indianapolis MotoGP Weekend August 8-10

AMA Pro Road Racing announced this week that the AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series will be returning to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway again in August as part of the 7th Annual Red Bull Indianapolis MotoGP festivities over the course of the August 8-10 weekend.

The series, in it's fifth season and fourth full year of competition after starting in 2010 as a five-race series, has proved to be an ultra-competitive spec-class with the exclusive use of the Harley-Davidson XR1200 model. The series was known as the 'XR1200 Series' through the 2012 season before the name was changed to the 'Harley-Davidson Series' at the start of the 2013 season due to the unavailability of the machines for sale at the beginning of the 2013 model year in the United States. Former class champions include Danny Eslick (also the 2009 AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Series Champion), Chris Fillmore, Michael Barnes and 2013 champion, Steve Rapp, who after over a decade-and-a-half of competing in AMA Pro Road Racing events won his first overall class championship in the H-D class.

In the shot above, Josh Chisum's #10 JCR/Scrubblade/Bartel's H-D-sponsored XR1200 sits in the IMS garage awaiting the afternoon tire test session on Saturday, August 11, 2012. Chisum scored an 8th and 9th-place finish the next weekend at Indy and added another top-10 finish during the 2012 season to end the season ranked in the 8th-place spot in what was then known as the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series.

Be sure to check out the full press release below thanks to AMA Pro Road Racing to see what you need to do to get your tickets to what will undoubtedly be another stellar weekend in Indy over the August 8-10 weekend.

"I'm thrilled that we are able get our Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series class back up to Indianapolis again this year," said Michael Gentry, COO of AMA Pro Racing. "After a successful, popular debut for our series in 2011 at the legendary venue, our riders continue to put on a thrilling show every single year. This track is one of the most iconic venues in all of motorsports and we are looking forward to getting back up there this fall."

The AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series adds a fourth class of racing to the Red Bull Indianapolis GP weekend. It joins the three World Championship classes - MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 - competing on the 16-turn, 2.621-mile circuit that combines part of the famed IMS oval with an infield section.

A couple of up-and-comers to the Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series took the competition by storm and shocked the nation in last season's doubleheader at the racing capital of the world. Jeremy McWilliams and Hafizh Syahrin each earned split-second victories over some of the more well-known riders in the series, such as defending champion Steve Rapp and current Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series points leader Tyler O'Hara.

The AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series is a spec-bike series featuring specially modified Harley-Davidson XR1200 motorcycles.  The Indianapolis doubleheader will be the sixth and seventh of eight races on the AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series schedule this season.

AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series Will Again Feature the $60K XR Showdown to Count Down the Season

Geico Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing announced today that the $60K Showdown will return to the 2013 AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series after a successful launch to the season-ending payout and shootout from the 2012 season.

Adding to the allure of the spec class, the extra funds will come in handy for the teams and racers in what is considered one of the tightest racing series, in terms of close and competitive racing on the North American continent.

Last year's shoot out saw Michael Barnes take the championship in what was then known as the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series in a close battle down to the wire at the season-ending round at the New Orleans Motorsports Park in early October.

You can read the full press release below thanks to AMA Pro Road Racing.

Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series Continues $60,000 XR Showdown

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (June 5, 2013) - With a season opener at Daytona that saw the top nine riders cross the line within one second of each other, the AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series has never been more exciting.  Adding a strategic element to that mix along with a $60,000 boost to the prize money up for grabs, the XR Showdown returns for the 2013 GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing season.

First introduced in 2012, the XR Showdown is a special year-end points fund award to be battled for by the top ten competitors in the final four races of the season, beginning with the Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series doubleheader at the Red Bull Indianapolis GP.

Riders compete for the XR Showdown by being in the top ten in the point standings at the conclusion of the fifth race at Miller Motorsports Park.  After the Miller round, each of the riders in the top ten will have their championship points reset to 1,000 points, putting the them back on a level playing field.  The rider with the most points at the end of the season takes home the championship and $25,000 in Showdown prize money, with the remaining $35,000 paid out to second through tenth in the final points standings.

The XR Showdown is a separate and supplemental $60,000 prize money fund in addition to the $10,000 purse awarded at each of the nine races in the 2013 Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series.  All riders are eligible to compete in all nine races and thereby are also competing for the $10,000 purse awarded for each race.

"The Harley-Davidson class offers the best opportunity for a rider to demonstrate their ability by making talent and racecraft the only variables," said Vance & Hines President Paul Langley.  "And the prize money support from Harley-Davidson and Vance & Hines ensures more young riders and privateers can have a chance to show what they can do at the AMA Pro level."

AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series Set to Launch at Daytona Season-Opener

A pair of Bartel's Harley-Davidson XR1200s sit ready to go at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the tire test scheduled with IMS and AMA Pro Road Racing on August 11, 2012.  Josh Chisum's #10 JCR/Scrubblade/Bartel's H-D/RS Taichi-sponsored XR1200 and team mate Tyler O'Hara's #29 like-sponsored mount get the final treatment before the afternoon session begins at The Brickyard, one weekend before the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series is set to compete as the undercard during the 5th Annual Red Bull Indianapolis MotoGP weekend.

Chisum and O'Hara will again be team mates for the now rebranded 2013 AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series as it kicks off at Daytona International Speedway today, and both will be looking to unseat 2012 XR1200 Champion Michael Barnes, who will be riding for the returning-to-the-series Rossmeyer's H-D team for the upcoming year.  Qualifying is set to go this afternoon at 5:30 PM EDT and the bikes will take to the track for their first race of the year on Friday, March 15 at 2:30 PM EDT.

Here's the link to the full rundown of activities at Daytona for today, tomorrow and Saturday, thanks to AMA Pro Road Racing!

Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series Riders Set for Impressive Performances at DAYTONA 200 Week

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 14, 2013) - History -- and common sense -- suggest that this weekend's AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series season opener at Daytona International Speedway will be nothing short of a multi-rider dogfight to the checkered flag.  Entering its fourth season of existence, the spec class series has quickly earned its place in the GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing line-up by producing reliably close and unpredictable racing, and nowhere has that been more evident than on the high banks of Daytona.

The two previous H-D Daytona clashes were defined by strategic gamesmanship and impossibly close maneuvers and the same will be expected in 2013.  In 2011, Kyle Wyman won by .016 seconds over Chris Fillmore, with Joe Kopp just 0.89 seconds off the win and Steve Rapp missing the podium but only 0.136 seconds short of taking the checkered flag first.  2012 saw Wyman win again in another contest that saw four men take hit the stripe within a second of the win with season-long title rivals Tyler O'Hara and Michael Barnes rounding out the podium.

Kyle Wyman #33, Tyler O'Hara #39 and Michael Barnes #34 lead the field during the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series race at Daytona during the 2012 Geico Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing season.  Barnes went on to clinch the championship in the final round at NOLA to secure his first-ever #1 plate in an AMA Pro Road Racing series in the over two decades he has been campaigning the U.S. road racing series.  Barnes will return to defend his championship in what is now the rebranded AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series for the 2013 season.  The race is scheduled to be run on Friday, March 15 at 2:15 EDT.  AMA Pro Road Racing photo by Brian J. Nelson.

While Wyman's promising campaign ended early due to injury last season, the championship wasn't decided until after the checkered flag was waved for the final race of the season, with the nod going to Barnes over O'Hara in what was the culmination in the Floridian's long quest to claim his first individual AMA Pro crown.

Barnes is back with the #1 plate in 2013, riding a Rossmeyers Harley-Davidson backed by Bikers Choice. O'Hara (Eco Fuel Saver, Scrubblade, Bartel's Harley-Davidson) and Wyman (Revolution Performance, Millennium Technologies) return as well, as the three men will look to reignite their three-way rivalry for class dominance.

However, there are other riders in the field with the potential to push for the checkered flag. Chief among them are former Superbike hero Rapp, who is back on an XR1200 with Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson, joining ex-Supermoto ace Ben Carlson, who has developed into a fine roadracer aboard the big Harley twin.  New Jersey Motorsports Park winner Shane Narbonne will again compete for Mob Racing, while SportBike race winner Bobby Fong and British sensation Sandra Stammova will team with champ Barnes on Rossmeyers Harley-Davidson equipment.  Michael Corbino (Rossiter's Harley-Davidson of Sarasota), Josh Chisum (Eco Fuel Saver, Scrubblade, JC Racing), Travis Wyman (Harv's Harley-Davidson), and Steve Crevier (Motorsports Plus) are just a few of the other names that could easily prove to be factors up front in what's virtually guaranteed to be a hard-fought AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson opener.

Qualifying for Vance & Hines Harley -Davidson Series grid positions will take place in two sessions, Thursday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. and Friday morning at 9:40 a.m. The 7-lap contest will kick off the 2013 GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing season's race action on Friday at 2:15 p.m. local time.

AMA Road Racing: Tyler O'Hara Takes Race 2 in AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series at Red Bull Indy MotoGP

Tyler O'Hara can be seen talking with one of his team members during the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on August 11, 2012.  Teams were on hand to take part in tire testing in preparation for round 9 of the season to be held during the 5th Annual Red Bull Indianapolis MotoGP over the August 17-19 weekend.

O'Hara, who won the inaugural race at IMS during the series' debut in 2011, pulled out the race 2 win at Indy yesterday by just over 1.8 seconds on his #29 JCR/Scrubblade/Bartel's H-D/RS Taichi-sponsored Harley-Davidson XR1200 over Kyle Wyman, who had won the previous race on Saturday, held nearly a 4 second lead in the 10-lap event on the 2.6 mile Brickyard track before doing his 'Superman' impression while taking the checkered flag.  O'Hara had crashed while ahead in race 1 only to remount to eventually finish just over 15.7 seconds behind Wyman.

O'Hara's team mate, Josh Chisum, rode his #10 Bartel's XR1200 to finishes of 13th and 12th over the course of the three-day event which saw qualifying take place on Saturday afternoon and part time flat tracker and road racer PJ Jacobsen taking the pole on the #99 MOB Racing machine.

Check out the full press release below and a big thanks to AMA Pro Road Racing for putting on a great show alongside the MotoGP regulars over the weekend!

Gone With the Win: O'Hara Takes Sunday's AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series Race at Indy

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (August 19, 2012) - Tyler O'Hara responded brilliantly to Saturday's disappointment with a bounce-back victory in Sunday's second AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series contest to conclude the Red Bull Indianapolis GP weekend.

The JCR/Srubblade/Bartel's Harley-Davidson ace took the checkered flag in trademark 'Superman' fashion after escaping to a 1.891-second margin of victory, an advantage he had worked up to nearly four seconds before cruising to his one-sided win.

However, in the race's opening stages, it looked as if it would be MOB Racing/K Tech/Orient Express/Moroney's P.J. Jacobsen who earned redemption. The gifted wild card was motivated to score a big result after he was initially believed to be the victor in yesterday's abbreviated race, only to be dropped down the order after an AMA Pro investigation determined his bike caused the race-ending red flag.

Jacobsen got off to an exceptional start in his bid to win on Sunday, slicing into the lead on the opening lap and opening up a 1.873-second advantage over O'Hara before crashing from the lead and ultimately out of the contest on lap 4.

O'Hara took full advantage of Jacobsen's misfortune and quickly broke free of a pack of pursuers that consisted of yesterday's winner, Kyle Wyman (KLR Group/Spyke's Harley-Davidson/Vesrah Racing), Supermoto ace Benny Carlson (Suburban Harley-Davidson), and his teammate, AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike standout Bobby Fong, who made a spirited charge just to join the podium fight.

While O'Hara worked up his cushion in first, Wyman, Carlson, and Fong repeatedly swapped positions in a wide variety of ways, from hard braking overtaking to double-drafting maneuvers.

XR Showdown leader Wyman narrowly came out on top for the runner-up spot when the trio's last-lap tactics were put to the test. Carlson scored the final position on the podium by a scant 0.070 seconds ahead of the fast-learning Fong.

O'Hara's dominant win came as a much-needed result as he's facing an early deficit in the $60,000 XR Showdown following Saturday's crash and subsequent 12th-place finish.

After claiming another victory at the fabled Brickyard where he earned his maiden AMA Pro win one year ago, O'Hara said, "It was really awesome. I felt like yesterday I got a little bit unlucky that we were able to restart the race after the red flag. I had some bad luck, and that's not a good way to start the chase. So now, my goal is to win every race here on out to stay in the hunt. It's going to be tough no matter what.

"P.J. was riding awesome, and Kyle and Benny were up there. P.J. tucked the front and crashed, and I just put my head down. I built up a nice gap and was just monitoring the gap through my pit board.

"It's just awesome. From yesterday and how it went, to rebound like that feels really good. This place is really special to me -- I got my first win here a year ago and, ever since, it's just sort of been a blur."

Carlson said, "Yesterday was kind of a gift, but today I think we earned the podium position. I think we had the speed to get second place -- I just had a little trouble getting off the corners and getting down the straights. Kyle is a bit lighter than me, so he gets down the straightaways pretty good, so the only option I had was to go really deep on the straights, and I did that four or five times. We battled all race, and I had a lot of fun."

Michael Barnes, who made his debut with the KLR Group/Spyke's Harley-Davidson/Vesrah Racing squad at Indy, finished a lonely fifth. The veteran pilot crossed the stripe some seven seconds off the podium and more than 2.5 seconds clear of an intense scrap for sixth behind him.

That spot went to XP Motorsport's Michael Corbino following a race-long tussle with long-time AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike hero Steve Crevier (MotoSport Plus Harley-Davidson) and Travis Wyman (Harv's Harley-Davidson).

Barrett Long (Longevity Racing) edged Shane Narbonne (Teterboro Rams LLC) by 0.016 for ninth while David Estok (Ruthless Racing) finished just 0.378 seconds outside the top ten.

In the Shootout, Wyman leads the points over Carlson 1055 to 1046. O'Hara is third with 1040, followed by Corbino at 1036 and Barnes at 1034.
