Round 8 of the 2014 AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship is just over eight days away on Saturday, July 26, with round 7 at the Grays Harbor Half-Mile set to take place tomorrow on Saturday, July 19, but SMI, the promoters of the Sacto Mile, are looking ahead to the action that should blow the hats off of every fan in attendance at Cal-Expo when the racing begins.
With a full field of contenders expected for the second mile National main event of the season, the focus could very easily be on a handful of riders from the local area that are considered great possibilities to win next Saturday. With the area spawning some of the richest talent in racing history, it's no surprise that this year's edition will also be filled with an abundance of talented racers.
In the shot above from round 8 of the 2013 AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship at the legendary Indy Mile, Salinas, CA. resident and Zanotti Racing team member Stevie Bonsey awaits the first round of practice in his pit as the #80 Zanotti Racing/RGR/Arai-sponsored Harley-Davidson XR750 sits with the tire warmer on ready to do battle. 7-Time AMA Grand National Champion Chris Carr, the rider/coach/team consultant for the Bonsey camp of Zanotti Racing, sits patiently in the team's pit area ready for the evening's action.
Bonsey, who hails from the same area of California that spawned some pretty famous talent such as Ricky Graham and Doug Chandler, among others, is one of those riders considered a great possibility to take another Grand National win at the Sacto Mile next Saturday.
Read on to see and hear about all of the great riders who will be on-hand at Sacramento and who will be defending the west coast's honor in what will be guaranteed as a day and evening to remember!
