DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Mar. 2, 2016) - AMA Pro Racing has named The Rookie Class of '79 as the designated charity for the 2016 AMA Pro Flat Track season. The Rookie Class of '79 is a non-profit organization with a mission of raising funds to help injured flat track riders and their families.
"We are proud to support The Rookie Class of '79," said Michael Lock, CEO of AMA Pro Racing. "There are few virtues in life more admirable than helping a person in a time of need, and we are glad to assist in bringing a wider awareness to the group's tireless efforts in that regard."
The Rookie Class of '79 was established in 2009 by six veteran racers who joined the expert ranks of the Grand National Championship in 1979. In addition to CEO Charlie Roberts, the five additional members making up the group are AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famers, Scott Parker and Wayne Rainey, as well as AMA Pro Flat Track official partner, Tommy Duma, and major supporters Ronnie Jones and Johnny Wincewicz.
Donations and online purchases of Flat Track memorabilia through the organization's eBay store have allowed The Rookie Class of '79 to provide support to several AMA Pro Flat Track competitors in recent seasons, including Brad Baker, Nichole Mees, Mikey Martin, Jeffrey Carver, Jr. and Chad Cose.
"We are honored to be recognized by AMA Pro Racing as the designated charity of AMA Pro Flat Track," Roberts said. "It's something that we have been wanting to attain and we are happy to be able to work with the company. We're looking forward to the continued growth and support from AMA Pro Racing."
Roberts, along with his comrades in The Rookie Class of '79, share a mutual endearment for the sport of Pro Flat Track racing and strive to make a difference in the paddock and the fan experience alike.
"I'm proud because we have gained the support from essentially everyone in Flat Track, both racers and fans alike," Roberts said. "The talent that's behind the organization is outstanding and I am very blessed to be working alongside them. We have come together with a mutual passion and love of the sport, and are proud to be able to give back to the sport that we all love."
