AMA Pro Road Racing Hands Out Sunoco 'Go The Distance' Awards

AMA Pro Racing Presents Sunoco "Go the Distance" Award

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (September 13, 2011) - Two very deserving motorcycle racers have taken Sunoco's "Go the Distance" Award, each receiving a $5,000 check for being the AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike and AMA Pro Daytona SportBike riders who covered the most distance in race sessions in their respective classes during the 2011 AMA Pro Road Racing season.

Sunoco Race Fuels have long been known as one of the most active supporters of motor racing across a broad spectrum of disciplines and that support includes AMA Pro Road Racing. As the official fuel supplier of AMA Pro Road Racing, Sunoco 260 GTX fueled every single race winner in every class in 2011.

Blake Young took the Sunoco award in the closely fought National Guard SuperBike class, completing 708.734 miles on his Rockstar Makita Suzuki GSX-R1000. Young took the award as he completed a fantastic season finale which saw the championship crown alternate between him and eventual champion Josh Hayes at least a half dozen times during the course of the 23-lap race.

Young picked up his Sunoco "Go the Distance" Award check at the season-ending banquet at One Atlantic above the Pier Shops at Caesars in Atlantic City, NJ, and thanked his Yoshimura team for their season long support. "I can't thank my team enough, they stayed behind me all year and always supported me no matter what." Young had a breakout season in National Guard SuperBike this year, collecting seven wins, including a sweep of the season-opening doubleheader at Daytona International Speedway.

In the Daytona SportBike division, Cory West took the $5,000 bonus from Sunoco by covering a total of 840.99 miles on his Vesrah Suzuki GSX-R600. West opened his season with a second place at Daytona International Speedway, backed that up with another second at Road America and also captured a third place at Barber Motorsports Park. West led the Daytona SportBike standings at one point during the 2011 season, eventually ending up fifth in the points. Never finishing out of the points, he was a model of speed and consistency all year and that helped him collect the valued Sunoco "Go the Distance" Award at the banquet.
