Geico Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing Previews AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series Round at Road America

The newly renamed AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series heads to it's original roots this weekend as Road America will again host the Geico Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing Series and the class that got it's start at the Elkhart Lake, WI. facility as a support card event during the 2010 season.

With the H-D factory just 60 some odd miles down the road in Milwaukee, Road America was the perfect choice to host the series' first event when the powers that be at AMA Pro Road Racing were considering adding a support event to their calendar, and in the form of the spec series based on the Milwaukee iron and alloy that is the XR1200 mount.  In the series first season three years ago, five support events were held in hopes that enough sponsorship and interest would happen to possibly add it to the calendar in the coming seasons.

And enough there was and the rest, as they say, was history as the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series was born and added as a full support event in 2011.  Since it's first year of competition, three men have emerged as champions in what is now a full-blown class that has drawn interests globally from supporters and riders alike.  Danny Eslick (2010), Chris Fillmore (2011) and Michael Barnes (2012) all have one thing in common-they have captured the class championship in that series.  And in it's fourth year, the class has been renamed to the AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series, mainly since the H-D factory discontinued producing the XR1200 model in the States for the 2013 season.

In the shot above taken at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway-hosted 5th Annual Red Bull Indy MotoGP round, in which the XR1200-based class has acted as a support race for what will this year be it's third season, the top-ranked bikes in the XR1200 Series sit at the ready for the weekend's first round of practice on Friday, August 17, 2012.

Michael Barnes #34 KLR Group/Spyke's H-D/Vesrah/GK Motorsports-sponsored mount, along with team mate Kyle Wyman's #33 like-sponsored machine both flank Tyler O'Hara's #29 JCR/Scrubblade/Bartel's H-D/RS Taichi-backed XR1200 in the Gasoline Alley staging area at Indy, awaiting their chance on the track to thrill the legions of fans on hand for the weekend's popular activities.  Wyman and O'Hara would split the victories over the weekend, but at the end of the season it was Barnes who would walk away with the #1 prize and championship.

Thanks to AMA Pro Road Racing for the full press release preview of this weekend's event at Road America, which you can check out below.

AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series Riders Gearing up for Road America

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (May 30, 2013)The AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series returns to its spiritual home track this weekend as GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing heads to Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis., just up the road from Harley-Davidson's Milwaukee headquarters.

Road America also holds the distinction of having played host to the class' inaugural race. The contest took place in 2010 and was won by future AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike star Danny Eslick by a scant 0.055-second margin.  The circuit's draft-friendly straights and wide range of corners has reliably produced spectacular racing from the evenly-matched Harley-Davidson XR1200s ever since, with the largest margin of victory being just 0.157 seconds (including the 2011 multi-rider brawl that saw seven riders take the checkered flag within a second of victory).

Last year it looked as if that trend might change after Tyler O'Hara (No. 29 Eco Fuel Saver/ Scrubblade) stormed to pole position with over a second in hand. However, the draft proved to be the equalizer once again, and in the end Kyle Wyman (No. 33 Revolution Performance/Millennium Technologies) emerged victorious, followed by eventual series' champ Michael Barnes (No. 1 Rossmeyer's Harley-Davidson), with O'Hara rounding out the top three.  O'Hara got a measure of revenge on Wyman for that defeat, and on Barnes for narrowly edging him to the '12 crown, at the season opener at Daytona International Speedway this past March.

Nelson.

O'Hara followed Wyman's last-lap charge up through field on the banking, ultimately making one final pass to steal the win away from his rival. The Californian will be anxious to continue his early-season roll this weekend in Wisconsin and make up for last year's defeat.

While Wyman finished on the box in the opener on his Revolution Performance/Millennium Technologies Harley-Davidson XR1200, reigning champ Barnes finished an uncharacteristic sixth in what was his first race brandishing the #1 plate on his Rossmeyer's Harley-Davidson. The veteran racer will no doubt be looking to make some amends of his own at Elkhart Lake.  Travis Wyman (No. 24 Harv's Harley-Davidson) pulled off a minor upset by securing pole position at Daytona. He's also fared well on his XR1200 at Road America in the past, finishing fourth last year, third in 2011, and fifth in 2010, and should be considered a threat to finish on the podium once again.

It was a Daytona opener to forget for the talented Suburban Harley-Davidson duo of Steve Rapp (DNF) and Ben Carlson (DQ). The two will be well motivated to fight upfront this weekend, particularly Carlson, who hails from nearby West Bend, Wisconsin.  Former class winner Shane Narbonne (No. 46 Mob Racing) was just a half-second removed from victory at Daytona but still relegated to a seventh-place finish, such is the nature of the ultra-competitive class. The Massachusetts native is yet another potential frontrunner seeking improved fortunes at Road America.

If history is any indication, it's likely to be the same story when the series leaves Road America, as the difference between victory and a result well outside the top five could easily prove to be just fractions of a second yet again.

AMA Pro Live will be live streaming multiple channels of behind-the-scenes video of the weekend's activities alongside Live Timing & Scoring.  AMA Pro Live puts fans in the director's chair, allowing them to choose from a variety of viewpoints including track cameras, paddock cameras and a press conference channel. Geico Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing Previews AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport Series Round at Road America May 31-June 2

AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport Lineup for Road America Set to Deliver another Thrilling Round of Racing Action

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (May 30, 2013) - The AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport series resumes this weekend as GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing heads to Road America for the Subway SuperBike Doubleheader. This class filled with young riders and fast local talent is known for putting on some of the closest racing in the Series and this year's doubleheader in Elkhart Lake, Wis. is sure to deliver from flag-to-flag.

The Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport class has been designed to foster the growth of the sport's up-and-coming talent by providing a cost-effective platform for riders to compete on the national stage before climbing the ranks of GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing.

Over the offseason, many of the established riders in the class graduated to the GoPro Daytona SportBike division, including the likes of two-time class champion James Rispoli (No. 43 National Guard/Celtic Racing Suzuki GSX-R600), Jake Lewis (No. 85 Meen Motorsports Racing Yamaha YZF-R6) and Elena Myers (No. 21 Castrol Triumph Apex Manufacturing Triumph Daytona 675).

This natural progression up the ranks of the Series has opened up the door for a new cast of characters to set the stage during the 2013 season. The first round of Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport competition this year has easily proven that there is no shortage of talent in the ranks, as the races once again turned out to be wild races with plenty of action at the front.

Stefano Mesa (No. 37 Motosport.com/EBR Yamaha YZF-R6) and Tomas Puerta (No. 12 RoadRace Factory Yamaha YZF-R6) made it a Colombian affair during the season-opening doubleheader in March, splitting the wins in a pair of hotly-contested finals. Mesa narrowly inched out David Sadowski, Jr. (No. 101 Mach Modified Yamaha YZF-R6) in Race 1 while Puerta put his head down during the final laps of Race 2 to take home the victory over Charles Weaver (No. 13 B.P. Racing/Napa Auto Yamaha YZF-R6).  Puerta has returned in 2013 for his second season with the RoadRace Factory/Red Bull team, and the young rider continues to impress with his speed and consistency. Following the Daytona round, Mesa was picked up by a new team formed as a partnership between RSRacecraft and MotoSport.com. Although this weekend will mark his first time out with his new squad, Mesa has reason to head to Elkhart Lake with confidence, having earned his first career victory at Road America just last year.  Despite the recent successes enjoyed by the Colombian duo, the remainder of the 45-rider field that is entered in this weekend's contest will not be content to let these two steal all the accolades.

Corey Alexander (No. 5 National Guard/Celtic Racing Suzuki GSX-R600) is one of the many riders in the pack itching for another win and a shot at this year's title. Alexander has seen steady progress since his days in the Red Bull AMA Rookies Cup in 2008. Perhaps the tallest rider currently competing in GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing, Alexander scored a victory in 2011 and saw further progress in 2012, taking home a pole position and consistently improving his qualifying times. His third-place result in Race 2 at Daytona in March shows that his off-season training has kept him on top of his game.  Another rider who knows what it takes to win in Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport is Hayden Gillim (No. 69 Team 95 Yamaha YZF-R6). Gillim dominated races in Utah and New Orleans last year, and the Kentucky product has shown he's got as much natural talent as any rider in the class.  Regional standouts Jeffrey Tigert (No. 91 CM Motorsports Yamaha YZF-R6) and Sebastiao Ferreira (No. 73 B.P. Racing Yamaha YZF-R6) both earned top 10 finishes at Daytona. Ferreira finished in the lead pack and less than .3 seconds from the winner in Race 1, while Tigert turned the fastest laptime in the field in Race 2 on his way to a fourth-place result.

The sons of former AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike pilot David Sadowski both shined at Daytona and will be racing for the win this weekend in Wisconsin as well. Matt Sadowski (No. 100 Mach Modified Yamaha YZF-R6) and David Sadowski, Jr. (No. 101 Mach Modified Yamaha YZF-R6), enjoyed a number of top 10 finishes during the first event of the year, with David's second-place result on Sunday topping what was a great weekend for the family. The Mach Modified Yamaha competitors will look to do it again in Wisconsin.  Another brother duo from a notable racing family can be found in Travis and Cody Wyman. The New Yorkers continue to fight for family honors (along with 2012 AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series runner-up Kyle Wyman) on board their Harv's H-D sponsored Suzukis.

With the depth of field in Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport and the thrilling racing that Road America's 4.05-mile natural road course has long been known for, this weekend's Subway SuperBike Doubleheader is shaping up to be one of the most exciting events on the 2013 calendar.

Geico Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing Previews the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Round at Road America May 31-June2

Talented Field of AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Riders Head to Road America for this weekend's Subway SuperBike Doubleheader

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (May 29, 2013) - Following a short break after the season-opening DAYTONA 200, the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike field heads to Road America this weekend to charge up the championship chase and get the 2013 GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro RoadRacingseason underway in earnest. With races scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday afternoons, the GoPro Daytona SportBike action promises to heat up the Wisconsin countryside just in time for summer.  Featuring one of the most iconic layouts on the tour, Road America is a favorite track for seemingly all of the riders. Long straights, hard braking zones and technical sections all challenge the competitors to find their spots to make (and defend) moves. On Road America's legendary 4.05-mile circuit, very few positions are ever held for very long and the margin of victory is typically measured in milliseconds.

The middleweight GoPro Daytona SportBike class is particularly entertaining for the large crowds that come to enjoy the sound of motorcycles and the smell of grilling bratwursts in the beautiful Wisconsin outdoors. Turns five and 11 are the hotspots for wild action in all GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing classes, but particularly for the GoPro Daytona SportBike division, where the drafting battle to get to the front results in dozens of lead changes lap after lap.

In the kick-off round for the Series at Daytona International Speedway, Cameron Beaubier (No. 6 Yamaha Extended Services Monster Energy Graves Yamaha YZF-R6) impressed, winning the historic endurance race in dominating fashion. The young star will look to switch gears and continue that momentum in Wisconsin where the event weekend returns to the typical doubleheader sprint race format. Charged with bringing home an elusive GoPro Daytona SportBike title for Yamaha, Beaubier would no doubt like to leave Elkhart Lake with another win or two tallied up on the point standings.   One rider looking for a better weekend this time out is Dane Westby (No. 5 GEICO Motorcycle Road Racing Honda CBR600RR). The Oklahoman had a get-off in the chicane at Daytona during qualifying, and what initially looked to be a light tip-over resulted in an injury that forced the title contender to miss the 200-mile race. Fully recovered, Westby will be in an aggressive mood with his focus on making up points on the field this time out.  Garrett Gerloff (No. 8 Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves Yamaha YZF-R6) hasn't raced with the Series at Road America before, but a second place in Round 1 has certainly shown that he has the potential to do well in the class. Gerloff will be challenged to piece together how to go fast at a new track, an issue he'll face throughout 2013. If Daytona is any indication however, he's up to the task.

Nelson.

Two more young riders in the spotlight are Jake Gagne (No 32. RoadRace Factory Yamaha YZF-R6) and JD Beach (No. 95 RoadRace Factory Yamaha YZF-R6). The duo finished fourth and fifth in the DAYTONA 200. Gagne closed the season strong in 2012 with a win and a pole, and the Californian has become one of the top riders in the class. Beach's smooth riding style and strong racecraft will make him a notable contender in Wisconsin.  Road America hasn't always been kind to Jason DiSalvo (No. 40 Latus Motors Racing Triumph Daytona 675R), but the veteran is due for a breakout event. DiSalvo is still as aggressive as ever and has shown that he can dominate a weekend like few others can in GoPro Daytona SportBike. Aboard his three-cylinder Triumph, DiSalvo's progress is sure to mark Triumph's competitiveness on a difficult course.  Also expected to represent Triumph this weekend is Bobby Fong. Fong earned a third-place finish in Round 1, and the former class winner should be riding high going into the Elkhart Lake round as he continues his championship chase on a Triumph Daytona 675.

GoPro Dayona SportBike boasts a strong field of young riders to complement seasoned veterans like DiSalvo, and James Rispoli (No. 43 National Guard/Celtic Racing Suzuki GSX-R600) is one of them, The two-time AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport champ moved up to GoPro Daytona SportBike for the 2013 season and clocked in with a solid seventh at Daytona, topping fellow upstart racer Ben Young (No. 86 Ben Young Racing Yamaha YZF-R6) in the process. Rispoli has a good degree of experience on Suzuki GSX-R600s, so his learning curve in 2013 should be amenable to good results.  Huntley Nash (No. 75 LTD Racing Yamaha YZF-R6) had his best weekend of the year in Elkhart Lake last season, running near the front in GoPro Daytona SportBike and posting his career-best finish of seventh in Race 2. The former Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport race winner will face a different challenge this time around as he performs double duty. In addition to competing in GoPro Daytona SportBike at Road America, Nash will also make his National Guard SuperBike debut aboard the No. 75 Neyra Racing Kawasaki ZX-10.

Two young guns looking to rebound from DNFs at Daytona are Benny Solis (No. 3 M4 Broaster Chicken Racing Honda CBR600RR) and Jake Lewis (No. 85 Meen Motorsports Racing Yamaha YZF-R6.)  An entertaining plot in the Daytona event was the race for the record of highest female finisher in the 72-year history of the event. Elena Myers (No. 21 Castrol Triumph Apex Manufacturing Triumph Daytona 675) and Melissa Paris (No. 13 MPH Racing Honda CBR600RR) had a race-long battle that ended with Myers finishing just one position in front of Paris to take the honors with a ninth-place result. Myers will return to Road America with a new team, but the same top-notch crew members, aboard a 2013 Triumph Daytona 675.  Another talented rider making a return to the GoPro Daytona SportBike ranks is 2012 AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series runner-up Kyle Wyman (No. 33 Kyle Wyman Racing Triumph Daytona 675). The New Yorker won last year's Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series race at Road America during his stellar 2012 season. This weekend will mark his first start in the GoPro Daytona SportBike division since 2011 and his first time racing with the class in Elkhart Lake.

This weekend will mark the debut of GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing's television broadcasts on CBS Sports Network as part of the CBS Sports Spectacular. This weekend's coverage includes same-day delayed broadcasts of both AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike races, and will begin Saturday, June 1 at 2:30 p.m. ET/11:30 a.m. PT with an all-new weekend Preview Show. Geico Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing Previews AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Round at Road America

AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Action to Resume this Weekend at Road America with the Subway SuperBike Doubleheader

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (May 28, 2013) - Following the post-Daytona layover, the 2013 GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing season resumes this weekend as the series makes its anticipated annual stop at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis. for the Subway SuperBike Doubleheader.  The break which has followed the season opener has presented either a lengthy opportunity to ride high on season-opening accomplishments or stew in disappointment depending on one's Daytona performance.

While AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike leader Josh Herrin (No. 2 Monster Energy Graves Yamaha YZF-R1) and runner-up Martin Cardenas (No. 36 Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000) no doubt come into Road America full of Daytona-fueled confidence, it's the predicament of reigning triple champ Josh Hayes (No. 1 Monster Energy Graves Yamaha YZF-R1) that arguably stands as the most compelling story heading into Round 2.  The Monster Energy Graves Yamaha ace has proven to be a dominant force in recent seasons, quickly accumulating statistics that have thrust him into conversations regarding the series' all-time greats.

Last year's stop at Road America served as a prime example of his overwhelming form as the Mississippian notched up a one-sided, perfect-points weekend. Hayes grabbed pole by shattering Mat Mladin's old lap record (the first such mark toppled since the premier-class formula was heavily revised in 2009) while distancing himself from the remainder of the field by more than a second-and-a-half in qualifying. The races didn't prove any more competitive as Hayes hustled the #1 YZF-R1 to a pair of easy victories, winning by more than 10 seconds both times out.

Hayes looked every bit as quick and motivated at Daytona this past March as he opened his quest to become the first man to win four consecutive AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike crowns. However, his unquestioned speed and racecraft couldn't prevent him from leaving Daytona International Speedway relegated to just 18th in the early-season championship chase, some 48 points adrift of his young factory Yamaha teammate, Herrin.  A pair of mechanical DNFs erased two potential victories and gave Hayes the unenviable yet not-impossible challenge of making the long claw back up the order. A repeat performance of his '12 Wisconsin weekend would go an awfully long way to putting his championship campaign back on track.

However, it's unlikely Hayes will find it quite as easy to escape this time around. The scenic 4.05-mile circuit offers a variety of challenges to both rider and machine and rewards talent, horsepower, and setup nearly equally. For a rider in Hayes' typically dominant position, the goal is to break the pursuit of any challengers and ease off into the distance. However, if his outright superiority isn't quite decisive enough, the track's three lengthy straights will immediately level the playing field, allowing his opponents to cling on and turn the race into a dogfight to the checkered flag.  It's gone both ways for Hayes in recent seasons. Prior to his '12 double, Hayes walked away in one race in '12 while getting beat to the stripe on the last lap in the other. It was a similar story in 2011, when he won one race in a photo finish and was nipped at the line the following day.

While current title leader Josh Herrin wasn't yet ready to challenge Hayes for victory at Road America as a rookie in 2012, he should prove a much more formidable adversary this weekend. Armed with identical equipment, Herrin tangled with Hayes twice at Daytona. In the first race of the season, he took full advantage of Hayes' misfortunate, capitalizing by securing the first premier-class victory in his young career. He then followed that up with a runner-up result the following day, a 1-2 punch that earned him a quick 56 points and the championship lead.

Herrin boasts a rather sparkling Road America résumé himself. Besides claiming two podium results last year as a class rookie, Herrin won three times at the track while competing in the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike class.  Considerably more confident on the stomping 1000 with a full season of experience under his belt, following his superb Daytona opener, Herrin pointed to Road America as an excellent opportunity to prove his worth as a genuine title threat to any remaining doubters.

Eager to live up to the high expectations that come with being named the lead rider for the renowned Yoshimura Suzuki team, Cardenas notched up a runner-up finish and a victory in his Yosh debut.  As a result, the Colombian finds himself just a single point back of Herrin (due to the bonus point the Yamaha pilot earned for leading the most laps en route to his breakthrough win) and in a similar position heading into Round 2.  Cardenas has proven himself to be a master of the Wisconsin circuit as well, winning at the track every year he competed there in GoPro Daytona SportBike, including last year's double. His '11 showing as a SuperBike rookie was quite impressive as well, as he raced to a pair of fourth-place finishes.  Herrin and Cardenas will no doubt be anxious to build on their early-season success and look to avoid squandering what's effectively a two-race head start they've been gifted over title favorite Hayes.

In 2009, Road America was the scene of one of the proudest moments in Larry Pegram's (No. 72 Pegram Racing Yamaha YZF-R1) lengthy racing career, as the Ohioan stood atop the podium following a thrilling dogfight with the legendary Mat Mladin.  Pegram's offseason switch to Yamaha equipment bore immediate fruit at Daytona; the Foremost Insurance Pegram Racing runner collected a pair of third-place finishes after missing out on the podium altogether in 2011 and 2012. Now that he's back at front-running form, can Pegram and his family-based team topple goliath once again?  Cardenas' Yoshimura Suzuki teammate, Chris Clark (No. 6 Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000), is another pilot carrying a head of steam into Road America. Clark registered a pair of sevenths in Elkhart Lake last season -- his best career National Guard SuperBike results until he bettered that with fifth and sixth-place showings at Daytona this past March.

Wisconsin has quietly become the haven for a number of leading National Guard SuperBike race teams, making Road America the 'home race' of sorts for a number of big name outfits. The Michael Jordan Motorsports and Erik Buell Racing squads are based out of East Troy, Wisconsin, and Mitch Hansen's KTM/HMC Racing team has also long been based out of the state.  The twin-cylinder EBR 1190RS and KTM RC8R racebikes tend to excel on twistier and more technical courses, minimizing any 'home track' advantage they may appreciate at Road America. Conversely, the machines of the Michael Jordan Motorsports duo of Roger Hayden (No. 54 National Guard Jordan Suzuki GSX-R1000) and Danny Eslick (No. 23 Jordan Suzuki GSX-R1000) are well-suited for this venue and the team might just be in for a big weekend.

That said, last year's stop was a disaster for Hayden, who could only manage 17th and 13th on the National Guard Jordan Suzuki GSX-R1000. His Daytona opener was something of a disappointment as well (he's currently ranked 12th in the standings after 18th and fourth-place results), but the Kentuckian has proven himself to be among a very select group who can push Hayes at the front and race for wins. Like the champ, he'll be itching to turn things around this weekend.  His new teammate, Eslick, registered a solid debut on the No. 23 Jordan Suzuki bike at Daytona with a fourth and a fifth and should only be stronger at Round 2 with additional seat time on the team's GSX-R1000.

Meanwhile, the KTM/HMC duo of Chris Fillmore (No. 11 KTM/HMC Racing KTM RC8R) and Taylor Knapp (No. 44 KTM/HMC Racing KTM RC8R), as well as Erik Buell Racing teammates Geoff May (No. 99 Team Hero EBR 1190RS) and Aaron Yates (No. 20 Team AMSOIL/Hero EBR 1190RS) -- a four-time Road America Supersport/Superstock race winner -- will have an opportunity to demonstrate the gains delivered by their respective teams' offseason development programs.  Among the other riders to keep an eye on this weekend are Chris Ulrich (No. 18 M4 Broaster Chicken Racing Honda CBR1000RR), David Anthony (No. 25 Motosport.com Motul Fly Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000), Cory West (No. 13 Team RSRacecraft EBR 1190RS) and Dustin Dominguez (No. 68 Team RSRacecraft EBR 1190RS).

AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days at Mid-Ohio to Celebrate History of Husqvarna July 19-21

BikeBandit.com AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days celebrates the champions and riders of Husqvarna

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- May 28, 2013 -- Husqvarna's legacy in North America is impressive. It started with Torsten Hallman taking 23 of 23 race victories in 1966, simultaneously introducing modern motocross and the Husqvarna brand to American riders. Farther south, Malcolm Smith and JN Roberts started an era of Husqvarna domination on the Baja peninsula. John Penton bucked conventional motorcycle wisdom on a Husqvarna, winning the first of many AMA National Enduro Championships for the fledgling brand. Each rider is a stellar Husqvarna champion who shaped the future off-road racing in America.

The champions of Husqvarna will be celebrated at this year's BikeBandit.com AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, set for July 19-21 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

For 2013, the focus of BikeBandit.com AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days will be on Husqvarna's legends and champions, with special guests, seminars and autograph sessions. In addition, Husqvarna riders at the event will be put front and center, with awards for competitors in this year's vintage racing, and special gatherings and bike show classes at the country's premier celebration of vintage bikes and the people who ride them.

"Husqvarna riders and racers not only helped establish high-level motocross and off-road competition in the United States, they also demonstrated the fun and excitement that embody motorcycling," said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. "Today, this classic brand is focused on the future, developing cutting-edge off-road and dual-sport motorcycles that are enjoyed all over the world. At this year's BikeBandit.com AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, we invite everyone who has ridden, raced or admired Husqvarna motorcycles to come out join us as we celebrate the champions and riders of this venerable brand."

Husqvarna National Marketing Manager Corey Eastman said he is glad to shine the light on the people who helped make the marque famous.

"Husqvarna motorcycles celebrates our 110th anniversary this year, and though our U.S. history is a bit shorter, it is hard to argue the amazing impact of a brand that so many riders have chosen as they competed to become the champions and legends of our sport," Eastman said. "We are proud to bring some of this amazing history to BikeBandit.com AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days.

"We're excited to put the focus at this year's event on Husqvarna champions and to offer a special welcome to riders of the brand, both back in the day and today," Eastman added. "If you have a Husky, we want to see you at BikeBandit.com AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days!"

Five decades ago, riders of Husqvarna motorcycles overthrew the once dominant British-built four-strokes in the woods and on motocross tracks, riding the company's lightweight two-stroke race bikes. Throughout the 1960s and '70s, Husqvarna riders won 14 motocross world championships, 24 enduro world championships and 11 Baja 1000 victories.

In the United States, riders such as Dick Burleson, Terry Cunningham, Bill Kain, Ed Lojak, Mark Hyde, John Penton and Malcolm Smith rode Husqvarnas to major victories in off-road, while in 1974 Gary Semics won the first-ever 500cc AMA Supercross title on a Husqvarna.

With proceeds supporting the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, BikeBandit.com AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring the riders and champions of Husqvarna, is the country's premier celebration of vintage motorcycles and motorcycling heritage. A sampling of the activities includes the AMA Classic Field Meet Challenge, amateur national championship roadracing, motocross, hare scrambles, trials and dirt-track in vintage classes, a motorcycle skills test, a Wall of Death stunt show, and demo rides of current street and off-road motorcycles. The weekend also features North America's largest motorcycle swap meet, bike shows, seminars on a number of topics by noted motorcycling experts and autograph sessions with AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famers.
