AMA Flat Track: Henry Wiles Leads Jake Johnson & Jeffrey Carver Home at Springfield Short Track
Henry Wiles on his #17 Monster Energy/Don's Kawasaki battles with Jeffrey Carver, Jr on the #23 Van's Yamaha, Chad Cose on the #49 M.E.H Corp Honda, and Jake Johnson on the #1 Zanotti Racing Honda during the National main event at the Springfield Short Track on Saturday, September 3. After winning the Peoria TT 13 days earlier and coming back from his knee surgery in late April, the 2-Time Singles Series Champ again put it to the field during round 15 of the AMA Pro Flat Track Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship Series.
Wiles led defending AMA Grand National Champion Jake Johnson home by a tic over 1.8 seconds after several red flag restarts on the evening, with first year Expert and 2010 AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles Champion Carver coming home 3rd on the night for his first Expert podium. Earlier in the evening Carver had also won his heat and the Dash event, for what was a great evening for the Alton, IL. resident.
With Sammy Halbert finishing 5th on the evening and Jared Mees finishing 10th, the overall point standings has tightened to 10 points between Halbert (282), Mees (274) and Johnson now just 2 points back (272) going into Sunday afternoon's Springfield Mile II.
